Today is @arcinstitute's fourth birthday! Thank you to the scientists for their amazing work (I was very optimistic about what would be possible, but I didn't expect so much progress so soon), and to the Arc employees, donors, partners, and friends who've made everything
I've long been interested in new ways to organize science and enable curiosity-driven discovery. Today, in partnership with @Stanford, @UCBerkeley, and @UCSF, we're excited to announce Arc Institute, a new undertaking in this vein: https://t.co/NAOHTwFKuH.

(1/5) 🧵Our new preprint shows how the brain develops to transform how kids, teens & adults represent & navigate their world: shifting from local, moment-to-moment memories in childhood to integrated, global cognitive maps in adulthood. Paper: https://t.co/yy03RpGJmZ

New paper for #neurips2025! AI models adjust millions of internal settings to get better at a task. But how are these adjustments determined? For decades, we've mostly used trial & error. Led by @johnjvastola, we took a different approach...🧵 (1/6) 🔗 https://t.co/fb07AqRAUI

“I will die on the hill that population coding is the relevant level of encoding information in the brain.” In the latest “This paper changed my life,” Nancy Padilla-Coreano discusses a paper on mixed selectivity neurons. https://t.co/Jqf2MuYSBh

The 2013 Nature paper by Mattia Rigotti and his colleagues revealed how mixed selectivity neurons—cells that are not selectively tuned to a stimulus—play a key role in cognition.

Published today in @Nature, @aditimerch & researchers from the @BrianHie lab report that the large-scale genomic model, Evo, is capable of using surrounding genomic context to produce novel, functional genes, enabling an emergent approach they've termed 'semantic design'.

Awesome work co-led by my student @annhuang42 and @neurostrow on disentangling, then comparing recurrent and externally driven dynamics! Look out for more incredible work from @annhuang42 coming up at NeurIPS 👀
Our next paper on comparing dynamical systems (with special interest to artificial and biological neural networks) is out!! Joint work with @AnnHuang42 , as well as @tweetsatpreet , @Leokoz8 , @FieteGroup , and @KanakaRajanPhD : https://t.co/al1UrSv13e
