Asst. Prof. of Medicine. Studying HIV persistence, one clone at a time at Johns Hopkins University.
Baltimore, MD
Joined December 2018
While studying two PWH who could not achieve undetectable #HIV viremia, we ran into a paradox: molecular evolution among. defective proviruses!. A proviral mystery novel led the multitalented detective @HariharanViv. Hot off the press on @biorxivpreprint.
2 people with HIV, perfect adherence to meds. Yet, for years, viral loads stayed detectable. We found something wild: defective viruses that couldn’t replicate on their own…but somehow, they were spreading. A collab w/ the inimitable @SimonettiFR.🧵1/n.
