Couldn’t have had a better first day! I have an office, a computer, a personal dictaphone, a lovely secretary, several upcoming theatre lists, clinics and endoscopy AND a new ID badge! All on day 1!

217 operations, 67 major resections, 40 emergency laparotomies, 601 GP referrals triaged, 123 colonoscopies and 829 letters dictated! I’ve survived my first year as a consultant! Thank you
@EdinburghColo

After 22 years, 3 months and 8 days in the UK, it’s time to go home! I’ve had a fantastic life and career here and I want to thank you ALL for everything you’ve done for me 🥹 Time for a new adventure 🇯🇴
Delighted to have got a post CCT fellowship post in Edinburgh for 2019! I look forward to working with the fantastic team at the Western General.

Having just completed this fantastic post-CCT fellowship (and then decided to stay on!) - I would strongly recommend it to everyone. Please contact me if you have any questions.
Thank you to the fantastic Dukes’ executive and wider committee for a phenomenal 18 months! I’ve really enjoyed being a regional rep and strongly encourage all trainees to get involved. Good luck to the new committee!

remember being unceremoniously kicked out of the SpR group by the militant group administrator at 8 o’clock on your first day as a consultant? 😂
@PVaughanShaw
I can certainly confirm it is a highly recommended fellowship post. High volume, wide variety of benign and malignant cases and an extremely supportive team!

Happy to be contacted by candidates.

with the restraints on the NHS I very much doubt anyone follows up their PNS patients longterm - so again I think a real answer from
@PITSTOP_Study
will be essential. My gut feeling tells me it is no where near the quoted 99%!

Who knows? Data mainly from single cohort studies. Unknown disease severity, inadequate numbers, no valid methods of assessing recurrence/healing. Many quote 99% success rates. Is this the real world???
It’s coming up to that time of year again! Another fantastic
@Dukes_Club
weekend with a brilliant line up! Save the date in your diaries! Registration opening soon.

A few actually:
1.Find yourself some mentors
2.Keep an open mind about your job plan/activities
3.Get the work/life balance right from the beginning
4.Get to know the associated health professionals well (eg cancer coordinator/waiting list officer)
5.Learn to say no!
6.Enjoy it!
Thank you
@British_Airways
for an abysmal customer service experience- absolutely the worst I’ve ever had from any airline worldwide! Thank you for taking absolutely no responsibility for your errors! Thank you for making difficult times unnecessarily more difficult! Never again!
