Max and Keira's Law comes into effect today which means consent will be presumed with people having to opt out if they wish not to be a donor. It was named after Keira Ball, who died aged 9 & Max Johnson, now 12, who was saved by her heart & under the care of the Freeman Hospital

It's with very mixed emotions we say goodbye to this little one today. After more than two years with us, Grace Westwood is leaving the Freeman Hospital after having a heart transplant but we know she's in good hands with her big brother Josh 😊♥️♥️

We’ve had a brilliant and busy first day at our first large vaccination centre for the region! We’ve vaccinated hundreds of older people plus local health and social care staff.
Today we bid farewell to one of our most well respected consultants - Dr Stephen Louw - as he begins his well earned retirement.

A Newcastle patient has become the first in the UK to receive ground-breaking cell therapy, in a new phase of clinical trials looking at effective treatment for advanced metastatic melanoma - skin cancer that spreads to other parts of the body.
Our Clinical Team of the Year is the Emergency Department who despite growing demand & service pressures introduced a range of improvement projects to improve patient care & flow. They worked tirelessly to meet the 4-hour access target in-year, just 1 of a small number nationally

Dr Gavin Spickett, consultant immunologist, retires from the Trust at the end of July - he has worked in the NHS for more than 40 years. His knowledge and support for his colleagues patients will be very much missed and we wish him well for his well-earned retirement.
