On one level I can see how people might think 'language matters' calls are a waste of time. But there is *clear* evidence that addiction terminology & concepts directly effect stigma and behaviour. Here we can see how objecting to that is ideologically driven

However, there is currently a big problem: only around one in six of the people who could benefit from alcohol treatment take it up. @AlcoholChangeUK widely welcome new guidance urging family doctors and health workers to ensure people's drinking habits are correctly recorded.
