Very pleased this has had some decent reach. I didn't know what to expect but I just hoped to increase understanding around this complex subject and possibly help to reduce stigma in some small way.

Really enjoyed this conversation with @jamesmorris24 - it covers lots of my favourite topics: drinking and identity; the history of alcohol control movements; moral values and attitudes to alcohol among others..

What does that all mean? You as a researcher pay to get access to your own work! You as a researcher review works of others for Elsevier journals for free! And if you want free access to your work, you pay about 1 month salary for one article! So, Non Solus (not alone)? We as

Stephen Jay Gould’s concern is as important today as it was in 1980. Brilliant people, with the potential to make world-changing scientific discoveries, are living and dying in poverty, without ever getting the chance to nurture their talents. 26/N

Although I'm not keen on the term 'relapse', this is important research and terminology choices are often complex.. so please take part if relevant:

Great study - more evidence of mixed blessings effects in SUD/mental health framings.. "The use of predictive technologies may reinforce essentialist views about mental health and substance use that may increase specific aspects of stigma and reduce others."

😡AWFUL: Renewable energy projects in the developing world are receiving 40 times less subsidies than the fossil fuel sector. Industries that are destroying the planet should not be getting paid billions in public money every year. It's a DISGRACE.

The popularity of Huberman reflects the West's focus of wellbeing as down to the individual's choices. This neo-liberal supplement approach is why many well-being indicators are now going in the wrong direction
I must say, it’s great to see that people are thinking and talking about mental and physical health: what it is, how to access it, and the actions we all can take to improve our health. This is real shift from a decade ago. The basics are pretty clear. The extras are debatable.

The Scotch Whisky Association continues to claim that keeping alcohol duty rates in line with inflation in 2023 cost the Treasury revenue. This is clear misinformation. Whisky duty receipts in the financial year 2023/24 were higher than the previous year https://t.co/WsMTxkDB1C

"Addiction is a multifaceted issue involving mental health, trauma, and socio-economic factors. Simplifying it with terms like “zombie drug” is not only inaccurate but also counterproductive to addressing the root causes " https://t.co/qOaPKKJZxN

"Ironically, simplistically framing choice components of addiction as ‘voluntariness’ in need of ‘disapproval’ harks back to the most historically stigmatizing of dogmas: the moral model of addiction."
