This IS a game changing moment in tacking the housing emergency. ๐ The ยฃ39bn investment could mark the beginning of a bold new chapter for housing in this country. But to truly tackle rising homelessness, it must come alongside a clear target for delivering social rent homes.

We haven't built enough social rent homes for decades. These genuinely affordable homes are desperately needed to fix the housing emergency we all face. As a society we have a responsibility to make sure everyone has a safe place to call home:

On #WorldHomelessDay, it's important to remember that the scale of homelessness goes much deeper than what is visible on the surface. This is due to a broken housing system.

If we want to curb spiralling homelessness and increasing housing costs in London, developers must build their fair share of genuinely affordable social homes to get people out of temporary accommodation and into safe, secure, and affordable homes. #BuildSocialHousing๐

With over 94,000 children in temporary accommodation in London, the need for social homes has never been more urgent. It's worrying to see developers are pushing to water down affordable housing requirements.

This is poisonous policy-clickbait that wonโt help anyone, save any money, or change anything. Cutting funding for social housing will only increase homelessness. The real solution? ๐#BuildSocialHousing

90% of social homes are allocated to British nationals. Eligibility for social housing is already restricted, and even those who have access often can't get one. That's why there's 1.3million households on the social housing waiting list.
Weโre the only party that gets it. We must take the difficult decision to get government spending down. @MelJStride will say more at 10am, live from #CPC25.

Since this blog, the government has ramped up social housing investment by 70% ๐. A big step forward. But, they must go further and be confident in their ability to deliver the social rent homes we need. ๐ ๐ช
