From Jan 4th, minimum pricing for alcohol products will apply. This sets a minimum price for 1 gram alcohol at 0.10c or a Standard Drink at €1. This initiative is an evidence-based public health measure that will reduce alcohol harm and save lives.

Ireland is to become the first country in the world to introduce comprehensive health warning labels on alcohol products. I’ve signed the regulations so that from May 2026 labels must contain details of calorie content, grams of alcohol and risks of liver disease and cancer.

This morning the President signed the Public Health (Alcohol) Bill and it has accordingly become law. In time, this legislation will saves lives and hopefully change our nation’s harmful relationship with alcohol, reduce consumption and lessen alcohol harms.
