The new movie from

HOW TO BLOW UP A PIPELINE is a gripping, year's best film. It also makes the compelling argument for taking more direct action to fight climate change as those in power do nothing to stop it.

Just heard back from

. It did not issue any tree trimming permit for that building. A statement said that "StreetsLA will issue a Notice to Comply to the property owner at 3801 Barham Blvd."
Our Office is investigating the tree trimming that occurred outside Universal Studios where workers, writers, and actors are exercising their right to picket.
The trimmed trees are LA City managed street trees.
(Before and after photos below)
Statement added "UFD will also coordinate with StreetsLA’s Investigation and Enforcement Division (IED) to confirm if this case warrants the issuance of an administrative citation or an administrative hearing."
@loisbeckett
They literally own a cabinet designed to hide in during the French Revolution/Reign of Terror and they had the gall to say pedestrians protesting was like the storming of the Bastille.
Yes we can because if we don't more people will die. Come the hell on.
In the most cynical, conservative argument: Pay people now to stay home means we beat the virus quicker which means the "economy" restarts sooner with less cost.
Three years after liberals pinned their hopes on her as a bridge within the Trump White House, Ivanka Trump has registered as a Republican, defends her father over impeachment and goes on Hannity’s show.
Kevin de León says he won't resign from the Los Angeles City Council because he wants to address homelessness. Advocates for the unhoused and impoverished say he is hurting efforts. My latest for

Trump's immigration policies literally violate international asylum law plus civil and human rights laws. It's not smart to delay repealing them, it's criminal.
@jfruh
Also like he was one of them for years! Old guy in fancy clothes from a wealthy planet, a senator for years. Led the republic through a Civil War. Sure he got weird lately but like....
"Three days later, your grandfather was dead. But Winocki kept his word. After the war was over, he paid a visit to your grandmother, delivering to your infant father, his Dad's blue checkmark. This blue checkmark."
my abuela came to this country with nothing but this blue check in her suitcase. she gave it to me on her deathbed. I was supposed to give it to my son…
BREAKING: 250+ millionaires sent a letter to Congress urging them to include a Billionaires Income Tax in the final Build Back Better deal.
"It is neither fair nor smart to limit or exempt the bulk of billionaires’ growth in income from investments from tax reform," they write.
@JoyAnnReid
George W Bush lied and got the US into an illegal war with Iraq that cost the lives of hundreds of thousands of civilians. And his administration racially profiled Muslims and spied on Americans without warrants. This is absurd.
@jaredbkeller
I was going to ask about the Punisher skull then remember Disney owns the Punisher now and of course, corporate synergy in monopolized late-capitalism.
"Each Covid infection increases the risk of developing chronic health issues like diabetes — including in children — organ failure, stroke, heart conditions, kidney disease, and mental health problems."
In less than 60 days, nearly 1 in 6 Americans will be expected to magically come up with an average of $500 a month. The Biden administration's response is essentially too bad.
@kenklippenstein
@MichaelSctMoore
Like, do you ever read something where you already know the situation is bad, but someone just puts into clarity how fucking bad things are? This is that.
@JoyAnnReid
Do you remember recent history? Bush violated privacy laws, cost the lives of thousands, bankrupted the country, stoked evangelical hate against minorities, and so much more.
New from me: Even before the bigoted audio leaked on Oct. 10, CD1 Councilmember Gil Cedillo has been ignoring messages from his successor Eunisses Hernandez and has not reached out about the transition of power. "We can't get a hold of anyone," she said.
Now that the campaign season is over, I want to clear up the claims about Albuquerque’s crime stats. Over 5 years, overall, property and violent crime are down, thanks to the officers, detectives and professionals throughout APD.
Just heard an All Things Considered host say that "most reasonable people could agree" cost-cutting measures to the Postal Service are needed. Uh....no. It's a public service. The only financial burden is a recent absurd one put on for massively partisan reasons. C'mon.
@ryanlcooper
The corollary to the "stopping spam calls would generate more societal trust and make it easier to reach people for loan forgiveness/COVID contact tracing/etc."
@radicalbytes
And! The moment Luke throws it away, he fully and completely defies and destroys the Emperor's attempts to turn him. The single most heroic moment in cinema isn't Luke chopping off his dad's hand, it's him proudly saying "I am a Jedi, like my father before me."
@amjoyshow
@MalcolmNance
That's not true, that's also not what's in the indictment. Also, Manning is a whistleblower who exposed war crimes. Trevor said it better than me:
None of this is true, even if you 100% believe everything in the DOJ indictment. DOJ does NOT allege Assange helped Manning access more documents than she already had access to, and it does NOT allege the password cracking even worked.
@nytopinion
@NickKristof
One side is literally locking up kids in cages, denying refugees the right of asylum and started a government agency specifically to target immigrants for "crimes." Come on.
For the morning crowd: Los Angeles City Councilmember Gil Cedillo has not reached out to
@EunissesH
about the transition of power since she beat him in June, and is continuing to ignore her messages. This is even before the Fed Tapes came out.
@HardSciFiMovies
@AthertonKD
I do love that, for all of his being surrounded by yes men in the prequels and his over reliance on CGI, Lucas never stopped being a 1960s-1970s anti Vietnam War, anti Nixon guy. Same energy permeates all of his SW.
@ishaantharoor
@AnandWrites
I just watched it and I know I should not be surprised or shocked at this point, but that was one of the most sickening things I have seen.
@jfruh
The part that I can't get over is there is a massive civil war with the separatists and the aftermath isn't explored. No reconstruction? Reintegration? Does the rebel alliance have strife with senators working alongside former separatists?
One of the more bizarre things is that Blackwater founder and noted religious extremist Erik Prince thinks he can actually get the U.S. government to let him privatize the War in Afghanistan while he openly works for China.
