legend, David English, has died. David worked at the school for 35 years. He's thought to have trained more than 1,000 journalists. This article celebrated his retirement in 2015.

Congratulations to

a well deserved winner of the outstanding contribution to journalism at the Welsh Media Awards. No champers, he’s off doing something very important instead.
Just under a week until
@CardiffJomec
's Future of Journalism conference. We're looking forward to welcoming scholars from around the world to Cardiff. It's been four years since we last hosted this in person. Here's hoping the good weather holds
As head of a journalism training school, I can confirm that the journalist is right not to reveal his sources. We can have a debate about whether British politicians should put their names to quotes - some news orgs require it - But this kind of grandstanding is nonsense

When doing research interviews with journalists about the 2019 election, some commented on Tory ministers’ refusal to disavow misinformation put out in the name of the party. But today has been next level. And we’ve months of this to go.
💥Absolutely INCREDIBLE moment.💥

Ends up basically suggesting that, since "Starmer won't tell us what he really thinks", it's okay to make stuff up.😮

Was sat outside a coffee shop earlier listening to someone bang on at great length about how Sir Keir Starmer and Angela Rayner have never had to struggle to make ends meet like ordinary folk. The origin story had completely passed her by.
This seems to suggest Dawes is inventing the regulation on the hoof. Who says impartiality is based on audience size?? That’s never been the test. If ofcom is revising the rules, it ought to come out and say so
@anon_opin
Given that it's a cash cow that is still generating 100s of millions of dollars a year, I'm guessing those involved will be able to console themselves at not achieving cult status.
Last ever newsday after nearly 20 years. So many achievements – stories in national newspapers, war reporting, uncovering injustices, and numerous awards. Amazing students and always lovely to follow our graduates in their careers. RIP BA Journalism – we’ll miss you.
@BJTC_UK
Due impartiality can mean impartiality over time, but the evidence does not demonstrate Question Time is achieving this; instead, it is sacrificing the BBC’s reputation for impartiality to create provocative programmes (7/7)

I hope newsrooms will think hard about using this video. Were journalists present when it was filmed? What is known about those detained? It is hardly coincidental it has been released the day before elections in many parts of the country
Despite the furore over blue ticks last night on Twitter, I’m at a major international journalism conference and no one’s talking about social media. AI on the other hand is making huge waves.
Last year, on 13th December, my son tested positive for covid. His mum got it next, and then me. Altogether, we were wiped out until the new year. This year, on 13th December, my son tested positive for covid.

They’ve now changed the headline at least, although still doesn’t carry the meaning of the story. But underlines BBC need to be more transparent with online updates to stories post publication
Annual grumpy tweet: News organisations shouldn’t do April fools stories. There’s too much fake news on social media as it is, and they’re never funny.

This a terrific read by

for anyone interested in TV journalism. Part memoir and part polemic, Rob makes a strong case for long form TV interviews as a tool to hold the powerful to account. It does contain some industrial language!

An astonishing interview with Lucy Frazer on Today this morning. Breezily tearing up previous agreements on BBC funding, barely able to stop herself from announcing the cuts to the licence fee on air.

The thematic reviews are among the best things the BBC does to ensure robust, impartial coverage. But it's concerning both this and the economics review last year, both highlighted that, too often, these stories are covered through a Westminster lens.

The appointment of Samir Shah as chair of the BBC seems to be good news for the corporation. He has the editorial and programme making experience Tim Davie lacks. Difficult times ahead though. Fate of the licence fee, charter renewal, and a likely change of government
The BBC should just focus on world news and competing with CNN & Al Jazeera, etc. The combination of global and UK news doesn’t work for either audience
In today’s grumbly train observation, when did people stop holding their phone to their ear but instead start putting the other person on speaker so the carriage gets to hear both sides of the conversation?

Well done BBC in discussing the controversy around the World Cup and fact-checking some of the claims. Would have been easy to ignore it, and probably will be ignored from now on.
