Another scoop from @FerretScot's veteran nuclear journalist @robedwards53 & @severincarrell. Shows that if you want to stop stuff leaking it's better to hire a plumber than a lawyer

"Houston we've had a problem" Fred Haise is now the last surviving astronaut who went to the Moon without landing. Apart from Apollo 13 Lovell was part of the Apollo 8 crew whose Earthrise photo helped launch the environmental movement.
Grieving the loss of one of my best friends, Jim Lovell. His extraordinary legacy is cemented by many space missions: Gemini VII, Gemini XII, Apollo 8 and Apollo 13. Our mutual respect had no limits. The Gemini XII mission we flew together paved the way for the Apollo

How thick would you have to be to think that illegal migrants would row 100+ miles across the North Sea to Great Yarmouth rather than hopping across the Channel? Here's a link to the rowers who are actually raising funds for MND

Dinghies coming into Great Yarmouth, RIGHT NOW. Authorities alerted, and I am urgently chasing. If these are illegal migrants, I will be using every tool at my disposal to ensure these individuals are deported. Enough is enough. Britain needs mass deportations. NOW.

Democracy for Sale rightly angry BBC ripped off their FOI request revealing Cabinet Office spent £32K to try to stop release of a blank form - rather than crediting them. Lucas Amin, @PeterKGeoghegan @JennaCorderoy

It's worse than you think. Fair! Loved the 1953 War of the Worlds film - complete with YB49 flying Wings, Spielberg version is really good, the 2019 Beeb Edwardian version tried but was too rushed & too low budget but this version of one of the great tales really stinks.
‘WAR OF THE WORLDS’, starring Ice Cube, debuts at 0% on Rotten Tomatoes . “The film’s tagline ‘It’s worse than you think’ sums up the entire movie”

I knew about Hexham Massacre, Peterloo, Merthyr, Tonypandy, Vauxhall Rd in Liverpool and the Llanelli Railway Strike "murdered by the Government in the interests of the capitalist system" as Keir Hardie said but I'd never heard of the North Sands Massacre - well remembered.
The NUJ Sunderland, Shields and Hartlepool branch joined the 200th anniversary commemoration of the North Sands Massacre, a pivotal event in the development of trade unionism. Read more:

Shocking thing about this is not that vindictive police officer got 3 of his @metpoliceuk sidekicks to needlessly arrest his ex at her home in early hours for nothing but that Met's PSD excused that - again - as "necessary, proportionate & compliant".

The @guardian have just put out audio version of Poppy Sebag Montefiore's excellent long read from 2021 about the exposure of Jimmy Savile & the BBC's cover-up and in particular how Liz MacKean - who sadly died in 2017 - fought for the truth to come out.

That moment of panic when you see the ad at Euston & you think @ramblers will descend in coachloads on your favourite Surrey Heath - full of Hobbies, Woodlarks, Dartfords & Stonechats - after it's voted Top Walk before you realise it's not even on the shortlist - just random pic

This stinks. Worth going to @unitetheunion report (linked to by @joepike) detailing how Len McCluskey gave sweetheart contracts to his mates who overcharged union by at least £30M. If all they gave him was football tickets & private jet flights in return that was a good deal.

In 1807 245 years of history drew to a close - when Britain banned the Slave Trade. Quentin Letts would have been crying. The idea that people have the right to rule us because of who their great-great-grandparents were (whether Royals or Peers) is ludicrous.

Seems somehow appropriate there won't be an @edfringe funniest joke this year. Not much to laugh at - IDF slaughtering Gazans, ICE kidnapping migrants, Putin murdering Ukrainians, 30% of Brits liking Farage, Starmer abusing terror laws & - well - Trump.

Kruger called for "a re-founding of this nation on the teachings that Alfred made the basis of the common law of England". So we re-institute slavery here. Under Alfred's laws there was a penalty for raping a slave - you had to pay compensation to the owner.

Glad to see @peltonarms (great music pub) in Pelton Rd Greenwich & @thedogandbell (Fowler's Troop & Jack in the Green) in Prince St Deptford both make it into @Telegraph's best 500 pubs in England although the Dacre Arms in Lee seems a bit of a random choice
