The 50 years from 1997 to 2047 were always designed to allow HK to transition into being a fully Chinese city. Sadly protestors don't know their own history and are on a suicide mission to nowhere. An independent HK is as likely as an independent Chicago.

I'm on vacation in a small town in Italy answering a few random questions and doing a few easy documents for my best client - nothing intrusive to my life. What an amazing time to be alive. Remote working is not the future, it's the here and now. I really don't need to come back.

I can't help but see how this thread applies to law firms. An important part of law firm management is to take care of talent.
If your company requires you to work nights and weekends, your company is broken. This is a managerial problem, not your problem. This is a process problem, not a personal problem. This is an ownership problem, not an individual problem.

It's odd that a non-partisan, independent Speaker would invite any guests to parliament - let alone one that was designed to be part of political theatre. Very hard to believe that there was no instigation by a government that is all PR all the time, for this invitation.

From a value-for-money perspective, they are way high. The LSO needs to justify its costs - instead of saying "this is what it costs to regulate", we need to ask, "what should it cost to regulate?" And the answer ain't $100+ million a year.

The free market argument only works if a lawyer "training" articling students isn't receiving a fee for work done by students, or if students are simply riding shotgun to learn.
Charging clients for work done by unpaid articling students is exploitation, not market forces.
Let me be clear. I am condoning the free market system, not free labour. I agree that articling experiences are anything but standardized. Someone working at a large downtown Toronto corporate law firm will have a completely different experience versus someone...1/x
