Confirmed—and in the most forceful language I have ever seen the APM use on this subject. “Lord Falconer cited, and misrepresented, expert evidence presented…by the Association for Palliative Medicine.”
The @APMPostTweets has issued a statement on a misrepresentation by Lord Falconer last Friday with regard to the safeguard of panels in assisted dying.

‘In the authoritarian personality […] there are two “characters:” the frightened child and the frightening parent. It is better to be the frightener. When that’s not possible, self-surrender or withdrawal are the only safe paths.’ https://t.co/pIs2p1CWXp

In the mid-20th century, clinician J.C. Moloney noted that many U.S. children seemed to have been mistreated in ways similar to those in Hitler's Germany.

How old are your children? Come back when they’re all adults. I don’t claim to have all the answers but I do have adult children and they’re all talking to me. My own opinion is that a 2 year old doesn’t even understand time. This is consequences for nothing.
When one of my children was 2, he dropped a carrot on the floor and refused to pick it up. He was told he would not be allowed to do anything fun or have any privileges until he picked up the carrot. He refused for hours. He cried and screamed. He even napped, woke up, and

My quote of the year was sent in by a listener to @TimesRadio. It’s from C S Lewis and warns of the danger of a government of do-gooders. I’d not heard it before but it’s beautifully phrased, and a bit of a foretelling of modern politics.

Today marks the 130th anniversary of what eyewitnesses called “The Great Holocaust,” the mass burning of 3,000 Armenian civilians seeking refuge in the Holy Mother of God cathedral (now Saladin mosque) of my ancestral hometown Urfa during the Hamidian Massacres in Turkey. 📸by me

Boris was forced to resign over sleaze scandals and this government is hitting serious national security incidents on a monthly basis and just keeps chugging along. It was only a month ago we were discussing the china spy case

Be good if Keir could make it clear which tweets threatening violence and death get you years in prison and which get you a hero’s welcome.
I’m delighted that Alaa Abd El-Fattah is back in the UK and has been reunited with his loved ones, who must be feeling profound relief. I want to pay tribute to Alaa’s family, and to all those that have worked and campaigned for this moment. Alaa's case has been a top priority

Love this sentence buried in a parish newsletter: “There will be no sermon at this Mass (this is noted for clarity, not as an inducement).”

The Turing scheme supports disadvantaged young Britons who want to study abroad - including in the EU, but also around the world. Replacing this with Erasmus will *restrict* opportunities for young people, plus the UK will have to pay extra to subsidise EU participants. Mad.

A small but significant victory has been won in the endless annual War Against Fakelore Pagan Christmas (tm). Repeat offenders, @EnglishHeritage peddled some of the usual seasonal fakelore with the claim below:

Just a tenth of the £570m the Government has just squandered on Erasmus+ would pay for the Crown Courts to sit those remaining 19,000 days. But they'd rather curtail trial by jury and spend the money on foreign jaunts for over-privileged students instead.
Allow me to add a little context. The maximum capacity that the Crown Courts can sit is 130,000 days a year. The government is - for reasons of money - forcing courts to close on 19,000 days per year. At a time when the backlog is so bad, the govt wants to remove jury trial.

£570 Million. Did the EU employ the Mauritian negotiating team to take our woeful government to the cleaners yet again?
BREAKING The BBC have announced that Labour have agreed to pay £570 Million to take part in the EU Erasmus scheme, for a single year (2027/28), and that this is supposedly a 30% discount on what it should have cost. That's nearly DOUBLE what it cost in 2020.

A few days ago, David Lammy wrote a letter to the Justice Committee answering some questions about his proposals to restrict jury trial. This is a welcome step. It’s a telling letter. But not for the reasons you might think. 🪡 🧵

I would really like the state to allow parents to do their job and realise that these sorts of initiatives are going to achieve the opposite of what they aim for. Teaching respect for others starts in the home. My son is sick of being lectured on what he regards as obvious.

It’s so tedious. Our local council has pompously invented a “Cabinet Minister for Climate Action” but they evidently feel that sweeping the streets and clearing the storm gulleys is beneath them
This is what happens when someone unblocks a road drain. The flood water disappears. It’s a shame that so many of local councils can’t be arsed to do this. Blame the local councils for blocked road drains causing flooding rather than on cow farts destroying the climate.
