Your regular reminder that #Sudan ’s war is a war on civilians and civilian life. After the RSF cut telecoms lines ensuring almost no one could contact family/arrange evacuation/access much-needed finances, SAF then bans Starlink, used by some to get back on-line. Unconscionable.

There are no words to describe how desperate things are in #Sudan right now. Perhaps some stats will help: In IDP camps, 2 children die every hour. EVERY HOUR. Meanwhile, the Humanitarian Response Plan is 3.1 % funded. I thought it was a typo. It had to be a typo. It isn’t.

Day 10 16:45 Made it to Port #Sudan . A 10-12 hour journey took almost 24hr. Exhausted but safe. Lots of SAF presence - some on a PR drive- and the east is so far calm but RSF presence on Garri Road (NE #Khartoum ) means conflict could spread eastwards very easily. Internet is out.

If the war in #Sudan is forgotten, then what's happening in the Nuba Mountains is full blown global amnesia. On March 14th the NM saw the biggest loss of life since 2011, after SAF bombing killed 11 students and 2 teachers at a school. Absolutely senseless. Read more here:

#Egypt 's military managed to get their soldiers out of #Khartoum airport last night (hence the quieting of the guns). Tarmac still operable. Egypt needs to be engaged to evacuate people AND bring in supplies, thereby FORCING ceasefire at *agreed upon times* so people can move. +

The escalation #Sudan did not need. Now neither side will be cut off from their arms supply/military support unless borders are closed and a no-fly zone is enforced but that risks imprisoning #Sudan 's already-besieged population too. Avenues for a de-escalation are fading fast.
