Your regular reminder that
#Sudan
’s war is a war on civilians and civilian life.
After the RSF cut telecoms lines ensuring almost no one could contact family/arrange evacuation/access much-needed finances, SAF then bans Starlink, used by some to get back on-line.
Unconscionable.
So basically after the major internet blackouts it Sudan, some people have been using StarLink devices to get access to the internet.
The SAF made a very controversial decision to ban those and confiscate them from everyone that is using them at the moment.
No one understands…
#Sudan
is literal weeks away from nationwide famine; some areas have already experienced famine conditions.
A creeping famine, in the works since before the war, is now in turbo-drive.
There is no time to wait to declare a famine and to initiate support esp to Emergency Rooms.
There is glaring empirical evidence indicating that genocide has, once again, taken place in
#Darfur
.
Victims have been telling us this since last summer
Last time a genocide happened in
#Sudan
, the world responded quickly and decisively
That is required now.
Here's why.

Day 9
9:02am
Leaving
#Khartoum
; staying became untenable. It's an excruciating decision to make, leaving so much behind, but one hopes to be useful outside
#Sudan
.
Can't help but wonder at both the unfamiliarly empty streets yet constancy of the Nile & think: when will I return?
There are no words to describe how desperate things are in
#Sudan
right now. Perhaps some stats will help:
In IDP camps, 2 children die every hour.
EVERY HOUR.
Meanwhile, the Humanitarian Response Plan is 3.1 % funded. I thought it was a typo.
It had to be a typo.
It isn’t.
“For the first time, we feel that all our people are in terrible danger and have been sentenced to death,” report South

@MSF_Sudan
Hey
@UNHCREgypt
, is there a reason you're not pushing to provide humanitarian support to
#Sudan
|ese people crossing the border?
Processing time is 3 days between Sudanese and Egyptian authorities. People are stuck in no man's land with no water, food or shelter. 2 dead. ACT NOW.
Other outrageous reasons include:
* Poor commitment to funding from international actors
* Failure of the international aid industry to localise by working with existing and effective grassroots actors
* An almost entirely absent UN response, diplomatically and re coordination
“There are piles of bodies which are visible from outer space."
Visible from outer space. Let that sink in.
And what is the world's response to war in
#Sudan
? Silence, firmly keeping heads in the sand, sclerotic apathy or...sending more weapons for more killing.
Disgusting.

After reluctantly getting on the Saudi boat, got notice of a UK airlift from Port Sudan, finally. One RAF airlift to Cyprus, flight to Birmingham and train to London later and I'm almost home. Thinking of everyone in
#Sudan
still seeking safety and how to support 🙏
There is an astounding and bizarre trend of decision-makers cosplaying as advocates.
Sudan is forgotten? Prioritise it!
Response is understaffed? Staff it!
Need new models/mechanisms of delivery? Create them!
Paralysed by fear of under-delivering? Fear not, you already are.

Day 10
16:45
Made it to Port
#Sudan
. A 10-12 hour journey took almost 24hr. Exhausted but safe.
Lots of SAF presence - some on a PR drive- and the east is so far calm but RSF presence on Garri Road (NE
#Khartoum
) means conflict could spread eastwards very easily. Internet is out.
If the war in
#Sudan
is forgotten, then what's happening in the Nuba Mountains is full blown global amnesia.
On March 14th the NM saw the biggest loss of life since 2011, after SAF bombing killed 11 students and 2 teachers at a school.
Absolutely senseless.

Most who pass through Rwanda's genocide museum are in tears at this point.

Glad there is recognition of the role that

Would rather it didn’t take 9 months to recognise the backbone of the humanitarian response in the world’s largest humanitarian emergency and really hope this goes beyond a PR opportunity.
Such an honour to meet some of the brave volunteers keeping

From Khartoum to Darfur, they have been at the forefront of the humanitarian response in their communities.
Theirs is a story of courage no matter the cost. They deserve all of our support.

would be like under RSF control, look no further than Kordofan:
W. Kordofan: RSF’s track record splits ethnic groups and undermines traditional authorities.
S. Kordofan: no coexistence with other groups due to RSF’s irredentist ambitions.
The Misseriya tribe, a significant ethnic group in Sudan and a key component of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), is experiencing growing internal tensions as a result of a public dispute over the RSF's plans to control the West Kordofan State.

The UN has until now checked out, IGAD has some momentum but is hamstrung partly by its own internal incoherence, as for the AU… it’s not an exaggeration to say it is a spoiler.
What’s happening in Sudan will forever be a stain on the AU and the current cohort of leaders on the Continent.
The most complacent ruling elites in the world. Shame.
In the theatre of war, propaganda makes it difficult to find the truth. Who is winning: SAF or RSF?

Leverage not pleas.
A portent of a calamity that is already befalling women under RSF rule

Urgent Call to the International Community on the Humanitarian Crisis in Sudan
The war in Sudan, ignited by remnants of the former regime and their allies within the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), has resulted in a profound humanitarian crisis. Throughout this 10-month war, the…
Once we cancel out the noise from the SAF fanboys about their new drones and the RSF fan boys on their new Chadian weapons supply base what we're left with is a new arms race that leads us not toward resolution but further protraction of this war, atrocities & collapse in

.
Just heard from
@ikushkush
. The fighting where they are has not abated and they were not able to leave. If anyone can help with safe passages, or any news of a humanitarian truce or even possible military evacuation (like with the students at UofK) please let me know ASAP.

right now and you’re not sounding the alarm on the famine crisis engulfing the country then, practically, your work means very little.

Day 8
11:23am
Spent the morning in evacuation talks with almost everyone. Mass exodus still underway or planned from
#Khartoum
by 1,000s.
Last night's lull is a cruel trick ahead of expected increase in aerial bombardment, return fire and clashes after the pseudo-ceasfire.
#Sudan
Despite yesterday in
#Sudan
it's clear some facts need repeating:
- there is no transition rn
- there are no 'two sides' to the violence: regime is killing protestors
- protestors remain committed to non-violence, despite regime rhetoric
- generals ≠ stability

Quite the burn. However, State didn't attempt to orchestrate a democratic transition, it quietly killed it by backing military solutions. In any case the US didn't need to "orchestrate" much, there was AND IS a thriving, independent pro dem movement - it was just roundly ignored.
This morning's airstrikes show a new escalation in this conflict. Irony is Burhan and Hemedti's history is about avoiding SSR and accountability; this conflict is the best argument for SSR there is and people across
#Sudan
will be chasing them for accountability even more now...
Hey
@UNHCREthiopia
, there are reports of mistreatment and denial of entry of
#Sudan
|ese refugees fleeing conflict, turned away for not having a visa; what are you doing to support them?
ACT NOW.
It will become a more desperate situation as the Egyptian border faces difficulties.
The escalation
#Sudan
did not need. Now neither side will be cut off from their arms supply/military support unless borders are closed and a no-fly zone is enforced but that risks imprisoning
#Sudan
's already-besieged population too. Avenues for a de-escalation are fading fast.
🚨
#Sudan
's conflict has been regionalized; Confirmation here that at least Egypt and Libya involved.
"Mr. Haftar, who is backed by Russia and UAE, sent at least one shipment of ammunition on Monday from Libya to Sudan to replenish supplies for Gen Dagalo."
Like. A. Fiddle.
When will the UN/IC learn?
This is a classic play: the regime will resist and put up obstacles, even to lifesaving inputs, only to agree and get some kudos out of it.
Q: What’s more important, the humanitarian imperative or fictitious claims of sovereignty?

Today I was informed that the Sudanese Government would facilitate humanitarian access from Chad through the Tina border crossing.
We are now liaising with relevant authorities and parties so that we can get our humanitarian convoys back on the road.
There is no time to lose.
There’s nothing that Nugud or anyone can say that could cast doubt on the high numbers of RSF sexual assault and r*pe cases that have been reported and/or well documented.
Sexual assault has been a staple in the RSF’s armoury for decades and no white-washing will diminish that

Absolutely ridiculous from TAQADUM!
The poorly legitimised coalition body of political parties and civic society members formed during
#Sudan
’s war who CLAIM to be for the Sudanese people…are saying sexual assault cases and rapes have been EXAGGERATED!
The RSF have been…
Despite UAE protests to the contrary, this methodical run-down shows the UAE’s role in maintaining

If anyone doubts just how instrumental UAE support to RSF atrocities has been, show them this must-read from

Somehow through all the gunfire and terror of the past 8 days, my *literal* ride or die, the brilliant

I hope everyone else in

can similarly find refuge 🙏
