Poor rains, rising hunger and funding cuts are pushing millions to the brink in Somalia.   I've allocated $10M from @UNCERF for early action – to protect people before drought becomes catastrophe.   Food. Water. Health. Critical to reach people in the hardest-hit areas.

Productive meeting with UAE Minister Al Hashimy in Geneva. We are in a vital period of diplomacy to end conflicts, in which we must protect civilians and open up neutral humanitarian access to those most in need. Also good to think through the next phase of Humanitarian Reset.

A vicious, orchestrated, and unchecked campaign of violence by weak men against women and girls is raging like wild fire.   As we start 16 Days of Activism, we must stand with survivors, with partners supporting them, and hold perpetrators to account. #16Days

The conditions described – acute malnutrition & life-threatening illness among those escaping El Fasher – reflect what I saw in Tawila last week.   Partners are providing urgent services, but needs far exceed resources.   We need unhindered access to civilians wherever they are.

A significant milestone: The @UN #Sudan Country Team is back in Khartoum for our first joint meeting in 2.5 years. In talks with Governor Ahmed Osman Hamza, we assessed urgent needs and reaffirmed our commitment to supporting displaced families, returnees, and residents.

Congratulations to Sudan’s Emergency Response Rooms.   Their volunteers have sustained communities through war – providing impartial aid, repairing essential services, and saving lives in impossible conditions.   A powerful recognition of local responders & extraordinary courage.

One year ago, I pledged to defend humanitarian principles and people we serve. Context has got tougher - more conflict, cuts, people in need, attacks on us, polarization. But our outstanding team is as committed as ever to the mission, and a movement is out there to deliver it.

Darfur is an absolute horror show. We have a moment of opportunity if the world is ready to seize it. Civilians must be protected. Access must be expanded. Flow of arms must be limited.
