In the Netherlands, where the Dutch invest in safe cycling, the over-65s cycle around a quarter of their journeys, while the over-80s cycle around 10% of theirs. Low Traffic Neighbourhoods and cycle lanes don't 'restrict freedom', they expand it. https://t.co/TL0l0HCWpQ

Tamatha Paul and I organised a public meeting about the Wellington road tunnels in one week, and over 100 people came. Not much (if any) support for the Govt’s proposal here.

Selling state assets to pay for operational spending makes no sense. Just saying.

BREAKING: A new UN report finds that Israel’s assault on Gaza - with the destruction of health care, education, infrastructure, even the banking system - has erased 69 years of human development, marking the worst economic collapse ever recorded. This is not war: it is genocide.

It's been a grinding, tough recession, we should probably check-in on the banks, make sure they're OK.... Phew, they're all good, profits after tax are about 4% of total wages. As God intended.

In his first council meeting as Wellington mayor, Andrew Little gave a big promotion to controversial rival Ray Chung and opened a political rift between Labour and the Greens over the Golden Mile. https://t.co/jVnckhJ5vB

So, rather than paying $551m for new large ferries to be delivered in 2026, we're going to pay $596m for smaller ferries in 2029 And we've already spent $671m cancelling the first deal That's $1.367b & another $1.270b+ for infrastructure - with a lot of works put off for later

Auckland has the best bus network in Australasia, and it's not even close. A great and under-celebrated achievement of @AklTransport. Comprehensive overview of how this happened from @DarrenDavis10 https://t.co/mRVsRyyXQ0

ICYMI - My reporting over the weekend: Foreign ministry officials recommended "full recognition" of Palestine as Foreign Minister Winston Peters initially weighed the decision. This advice was utimately ignored: https://t.co/OGYyDigm5p

The Golden Mile has a benefit-to-cost ratio of 5.8, but WCC officers want to spend 6 months re-running the math to make super duper sure that it's a good idea. Meanwhile, the government is ploughing billions of dollars into a mountain based on a BCR of 0.8 and vibes.

Here’s something really important for everyone to understand. If we design our cities for cars only, they fail everyone, including drivers. If we design our cities with many great CHOICES in how to get around, they work better for everyone, including drivers. Spread the word.

You can make it safer, greener and more exciting too!! Quay St was 6 lanes of cars. Then we made it: -2 lanes of cars. -2 lanes of bikes. -restaurants and bars. -200 mature trees and 50 native gardens. There’s far less congestion now too.

The Golden Mile project has been consulted on five times, every time finding strong support. Why? Because people do want faster buses, wider footpaths, more street seating, and prettier streets! https://t.co/BzcjaWx2zN

So curious that such a wealthy man never posts anything that indicates that he enjoys or is even aware of what virtually everyone appreciates— scenes from nature, pet dog or cat, praise for a movie, music, a book (but doubt that he reads); pride in a friend’s or relative’s

For taxpayers, bike infrastructure is a gift that keeps on giving. An asset that returns annual savings in congestion, maintenance, safety, pollution and healthcare over its lifetime. Stop asking whether your city can afford to invest in cycling. Ask whether it can afford not to.
