My very first piece for
@BritishVogue
is a very personal essay but is on something I really feel has to be spoken about openly more. I had no resources to go off when I was growing up in terms of my sexual wellbeing as a woman and in 2023, there’s still next to nothing out there.
@naomilars
I got rejected after SEVEN rounds once. I was so angry. Not at the job rejection, the fact that I spent 8x weeks interviewing and did a feature for them free of charge when they surely knew after two rounds easily I was “overqualified for the role.” Such a waste of time!!
PSA: Jane Champion’s The Power of the Dog is now on Netflix. Go forth and watch this beautiful, brilliant piece of filmmaking (one of the best movies of 2021).
@messiecondo
@60Minutes
I can’t believe the replies here, are people really thinking the palace were asked to respond to “something they hadn’t seen?”They would have been asked detailed questions. The palace refused to answer them and instead wanted the entire news segment which is unreasonable.
@jonathanbfine
The main thing that jumps out (asides from the fact that this should never have been published), is that she looks down on everyone else for just living their lives. She wants to stay home but resents her classmates for leaving her, and judges them no matter what they do etc.
Does anyone else struggle with feelings of guilt or major anxiety when they spend money on the thing (or things) they've purposely worked hard to save for? It's as if you have to choose between living your life or having a nest egg (very hard to have both, IMO).
@Lanalbb
@PopCrave
I agree completely, it’s not their fault they were born and no one deserves to be harassed for that. I think the frustration is that so few actually acknowledge that their family name etc offered, for many of them, a significant advantage.
@littlelostsunny
I feel BC’s was energetic and very well imitated but lacked the elegance of Bernstein’s overall. Possibly trying too hard? Just a bit, IMO.
@naomilars
It’s really so disrespectful to the job hunter as well as every round you get through, you tend to figure it must be a good thing! It made me set boundaries and really ask about a transparent interview process though so learned.
@BuzzFeedNews
What a weird take. TS has also been honing her craft for years. And if working your ass off for over a decade - writing your own songs, recording and then re-recording your own albums, directing and producing your MVs etc etc - doesn’t get you the gig, nothing ever will tbh.
@MrsRieB
@emily_rj
I use a walking frame that’s so hard to fold up - I generally can’t while out and about - that I always feel terrible if I’m taking up space where a wheelchair can’t fit. I’ve been only a handful of buses with a large wheelchair space - we absolutely need more of these.
@jonathanbfine
It’s also been deliberately, atrociously edited I imagine to put all the parts she didn’t like into a single piece (lots of it is contradictory). That’s absolutely Insider’s fault!
@mister_struggle
@hollyshortall
Jesus, so sorry 😞 This is a company to RUN A MILE FROM. I’m in London and if it helps, 99.9% of the time, my Irishness is always positive with comments on how they ‘love the way I talk.’ Don’t let one rotten apple get you down!
@MartinSLewis
I’m trying. I always used to just ‘accept’ prices, not haggle for deals - can’t be doing this now! Got my disability rail card (1/3 off all fares), finally applied for my Freedom Pass, trying to get a water meter installed to half my bills and got a discount on my broadband.
@messiecondo
@60Minutes
And they presumably wanted the whole segment in advance to craft and manipulate their answers based on the news segment as opposed to just answering the questions directly. 60 Minutes couldn’t have allowed them to manipulate in this way. They had H side and asked for theirs. Fair

What a weird week. In my thirties, I finally realise that I’m tired of one-way friendships. Real friendships, like any relationship, take work and two people to put in that work. If you have a friend who always does this work, reach out. Saying it loud for the people at the back!

Love this! My dad sat next to Liam Neeson on a plane years back (he hadn’t long done Schindler’s List I think) and wanting to strike up a chat, he just said, “You know that Irish actor Liam Neeson? You look a bit like him.” What a line! But they both had a good giggle about it.

All I could think of when watching
#Spencer
is how it felt to see Princess Diana in a vice; completely smothering and screaming while those around her refused to look up. Kirsten Stewart is incredible in the role. The Crown only showed some of her struggle - this goes all in.
When you see articles published today, that you, as a freelancer pitched five weeks ago, clearly written by either staff or likely someone more known to the editor (and probably for a smaller fee), it’s not hard to wonder why so many find this whole industry unsustainable.

Feel sorry for the rest of the cast though, most of whom look totally fed up.

I’m most likely worried about Gas/Electricity bills. Thanks to your advice I remembered to ring about my broadband as I’m out of contract and despite Sky’s increase, I got a deal which saves me almost £50 for the year - I’ll pay less from March than I do now!
I also got to chat with Priyanka Chopra and my goodness, she was warm, funny (she too wears comfy bottoms under fancy tops for meetings!) but also, the most LUMINOUS person I have ever seen on Zoom. Not asking for some skincare tips is something I regret tbh.
#LadyBird
is a beautiful, uplifting film. Ronan is wonderful, gutsy and opinionated; she’s 17 and on the cusp of adulthood, wanting more than what her life path has to offer. Anyone and everyone can relate. You’ll laugh and cry (a lot). My film of the year.

I’m not really feeling TS statement on the whole thing either though… Reads a bit I’m excluding myself from this narrative… Don’t get me wrong Ticketmaster I’ve no words for but I dunno, could she do more something about what happened? (Maybe not)

I see this all the time. Once, I was told, I couldn’t work from home because the live-in landlord also worked from home and she needed peace and quiet. €1200 per month for essentially being confined to your room - and being out of the place 9-5 (and ideally, some weekends too).
@jonathanmb32
I adore her but I do think she plays Margot Robbie in a lot of roles. OUATIH was huge but it was Tarantino and while she was fabulous in the role, a lot of the work was done for her in that case I think. I want to see her as more than the beautiful sidekick. She needs more meat.

They are trying to manipulate a news outlet who are trying to corroborate H’s claims the right way - standard journalism practice where someone makes a claim about one party and they go to the second party for their comment on it. The question are sufficient, full report is not.
@Barbarous_Relic
@messiecondo
@60Minutes
But a news organisation can’t allow the palace total control of a news segment (which is essentially what they were asking for). They reached out for comment, the questions would have had context and detail. They didn’t just feature H, they asked for the RF take too.
Poor Things is absolutely worth the hype. Brilliant, immaculate filmmaking. The obvious references to Elephant Man and being the outsider hit hard but refreshingly it is a happy tale with Stone’s Bella adored because she is herself. She and Ruffalo are sublime. Lanthimos' best.
I shouldn’t have to say this: If you’re a non-disabled person, you absolutely do not have any right whatsoever to try to tell me that my dating life, “can’t have been that bad,” that people only judge me “a little” harder than others, or anything else. You DO NOT HAVE A CLUE!!
Overwhelmed by all the lovely reactions and responses to this so far 🥹

I would argue that the palace would manipulate their responses to suit them as H has shared his side. Let’s be honest, they know the full context of what H is saying (it happened while he was in the RF), they want to protect themselves which is understandable.
First week in London down. It was never going to be easy making such a big move solo (especially with CP) but I’ve done it! Any Irish peeps here that I haven’t chatted to and wouldn’t mind a coffee in coming weeks, please let me know. Would love to meet so I don’t get lonely 🇮🇪
Companies that do a huge round of layoffs at Christmas (especially while their impossibly rich CEO still cashes it in) ARE DISGUSTING. Solidarity to all the Buzzfeed staff. Layoffs are awful anytime, but at Christmas… 🤬🤬🤬 And it tells you all you need to know about a company.

I think it sounds very noticeable (fellow Irish), though I do tend to tone mine down when I’m not talking to Irish people - subconsciously at first but also because I speak much quicker which can be hard for some of my friends from different cultures to understand.

Asking for right of reply isn’t manipulating the RF, it’s doing the right thing. It’s complex when the media reports on claims such as these, but on this point, IMO, it’s the “they can’t comment on what they haven’t seen” line that is incorrect.
Can’t stop thinking about Sofia Coppola’s
#Priscilla
. A beautifully shot, sensitive portrayal of the woman behind the headlines. Hers was an isolated life with a lonely, controlling love where Elvis made the rules. Gorgeous sets, soundtrack with Cailee Spaeny shining.

Baldwin just never does himself any favours does he? I saw no genuine remorse when Halyna Hutchins was killed - he never seems like he goes outside his warped Hollywood bubble. I never see true emotion in him and it’s why I really dislike him as an actor.

Stop making it means-tested!! Disabled people have double the outgoings of non-disabled people and need the disability payment to help with this - yes, even if they are working!
I interviewed the brilliant Angeline Ball about her latest film Deadly Cuts today. This movie must be seen by everyone! I haven’t genuinely laughed at an Irish comedy this much since The Snapper. The light relief we need 🎀
🧵I really really want to write a piece on smear tests, disability and how it’s so emotionally draining, painful and exhausting when the medical community are still so ignorant in 2024, that I walk out of the practice feeling the failed smear was somehow my fault.

I walked a staggering 8,000 steps around London today with my Walker in tow. For someone who has mild CP and very low energy levels, this is probably the most I’ve EVER walked it feels like a huge accomplishment. Did I get soaked? ☔️ Hell yes. Am I exhausted? Also yes. But Yay!!
