Marilyn Monroe, who died 62 years ago, has been reincarnated as a “hyper-real” AI-generated digital avatar that lets fans engage in a conversation with the late actor — who can answer questions “in Marilyn’s signature voice and style.”
as far as i can tell, this is the best way to experience the oscars...no personal stakes, already won huge awards at home, just here to support the gals and party, fun colleagues, everyone thinks you're super hot
#Barbie
director Greta Gerwig held her ground against studio executives and refused to cut a scene where Barbie meets an elderly woman, as they believed it was unimportant:
“To me, this is the heart of the movie. If I cut that scene, I don’t know why I’m making this movie. If I
entirely not the point, but it's interesting how the biggest stars on the planet used to have humble one floor homes and not campuses that could house a small village
This International Women’s Day, we're recognizing women who made cinematic history.
Did you know that the first kiss between two women in a major motion picture was the 1930 film MOROCCO, starring bisexual icon Marlene Dietrich? (thread)
At a certain point this kind of stuff tips over the edge of impressive into pure boredom for me. idk man I’m just not interested in seeing how well someone can mimic a YouTube clip

Ok fine. Here's my take on the Judy Garland thing.
Most of the pushback I've seen to the original tweet involves explaining Judy's lack of agency in her career and her later involvement in the Civil Rights Movement. This is all true and good, and I think worth clarifying.
Found in a Journal of Epidemiology from 1990:
Poppers were once thought to be a cause of AIDS, but the theory was dropped—use was correlated but not a cause.
The paper then jokes that, by that logic, Levi 501s and the Judy at Carnegie Hall album would be risk factors for AIDS
this is very bad but also a good example of something that’s become more common on Broadway—exaggerating choices to the point that jokes that can fully stand on their own become broad comedy. Sondheim’s lyrics don’t need silly gestures and vocal tics, the joke is already there

My entire timeline is either a pic from the Met Gala or a writer being like “no one is earning a living wage” and if that isn’t America in one neat little package…
I just want to know how classic Hollywood is allegedly so popular that mainstream film companies are sinking all their talent and money into recreating it and yet I get zero professional opportunities lmao
