You still have your family. You still have your friends. You still have your work. You still have your passions. You still have your diversions. You still have the capacity to feel joy, and the means of doing so. You still have your mind, which is and will always be yours alone.

In 2008, election night was pure elation. We marched to our local pub and led 100 hipsters in a rousing rendition of “America the Beautiful.” And yet when I walked out of the bar, a guy grabbed me and said “not everyone won tonite.” Tonite that wrong was righted. 🌈

Getting awfully dark in the newsroom at @washingtonpost today. Time to call an ambulance, or change the masthead. One or the other.

In light of the Menendez resentencing, I think it is only prudent to reconsider the case of Sam Sweet. Justice must be served.

Or more importantly, the homer that motivated one of my favorite scenes from Good Will Hunting… which was Fisk’s original intent.
Today in 1975 Carlton Fisk hit iconic walkoff #WorldSeries HR only to have @imnatecorddry ‘s @RedSox title hopes crushed Game 7 by Reds.

Anyway, my wife had heard about it on Scriptnotes and wanted to check it out. She didn’t say a thing until that scene and then was like “Holy SHIT who is that?!” Great character actors who come in for one scene and dominate? One of my favorite things.

It is such an important scene in the film, and to see it in the hands of a true character actor master is just the greatest. To come into a film that has already been in production for weeks if not months and deliver in that kind of way is close to impossible.

And the whole scene plays in an over. 2 sizes. That’s it. And I’m guessing Bennet Miller realized after the rehearsal that this scene wouldn’t take too long to shoot, and would require very little coverage.

His call was 5AM (for the wig), and he was rehearsing by 8AM. My guess? They were wrapped by lunch. Because he understood the language, and what the language was asking the actor to do. Writer wasn’t on set. No fucking way. That is just Arliss Howard being remarkable.
