A very sad day. My beautiful, amazing and loving grandmother closed her eyes for the last time at 1am this morning. I am so blessed to have had her as my Nan and for so long. I will cherish the memories.
"Grief is the price we pay for love". This really hurts. Night Nan xx
Well I guess this makes it official.
In June I'll join
@WG_Education
for 2-years. This is a very exciting time for Welsh education and I'm privileged to have been awarded this opportunity.
I'm sad to leave
@roathparkprm
but I know it'll succeed under
@MrLFitzgerald
leadership.

seriously thinking about getting a school wellbeing dog. What is the process? Do they have to be a certain breed? Do they have to go through training?
If we do this I want to do it right.
I'd be so happy to hear from anyone with experience or knowledge.
I couldn't face wearing a suit today so I wore trousers and a shirt.
@roathparkprm
Y2 pupil, "Sir you're not in old people clothes today and you look smart. You actually look like you could be young".
Thanks (I think!!!)

He's right, it should've been his job. Sadly he resigned, in fact was sacked for gross misconduct, from his job 6 years ago because of his actions.
All actions have consequences.
You're new partner sounds like the man. Give him a high 5 for me!
@PaulGarvey4
All staff are on full pay.
My temporary TAs (ending 31.3.20 or 31.8.20) have had their contracts extended until schools are back as normal.
Also kept on my long term supply teacher.
The stocking of our "Rewards Machine" is underway!
This is linked to our "Spikeys" our own school currency, our Roath Bank and Roath Shop.
Our
@roathparkprm
pupils love this!!

School staff, you are amazing.
I cannot think of a single profession that could've mobilised and changed the way we work over night. Our delivery model has been turned upside down and we coped and smashed it. Well done. Be proud.

Speaking as a father, my girls (primary aged) will not be taking part in 10 hours of schooling per day. They also get a bus to school which adds an additional hour on.
Is anyone thinking about the mental health and wellbeing of the children?
Don't even get me started as a HT!
On an afternoon walk today in the area where I live, 4 neighbours said, "you looking forward to going back to school on Monday. Been off a while now!"
Schools haven't been closed.
I've been there everyday.
I've been there this week prepping.
I can't wait until its full again
In my live interview with Sky News this morning I wanted to highlight the huge amount of work all Welsh schools have done over this period. I always wanted to recognise the tredemdous support & leadership from

@WelshGovernment
On the day

Yesterday I had a "rant" about opportunistic companies "making profit" from
#FreeSchoolMeals
@LBC
did a great job highlighting this again this morn.
Today I want to highlight and applaude
@CaerphillyCBC
@castellhowell
for providing children in the LA with a choice of gd food.
Today I want to remember this great man, Mr Cotterell, who sadly past away 4 years ago today. Mr Cotterell was my primary school teacher and I, along with the entire school, worshiped him. He loved children and he loved his job. He made my primary education fun and lit my desire

I use pupil premium money to employ a team of full-time tweeters to keep up to speed. In addition, my school policy states that all staff must schedule 27.4 tweets per day. I've implanted chips in them so they can tweet without picking up a device. It's cost £1.2m but worth it!
On the 1st Nov I decided I needed to do something about my weight. I've always made excuses, ie bad knees, work schedule, etc. I took up a running challenge from
@tjgolding
& haven't looked back. Still not where I want to be, but I'm on my way!

A little self reflection of the toughest week of my career.
Staff - amazing committment and attitude. Kept things normal.
Families - amazing spirit and kindness through words, letters and tweets.
Pupils - always awesome.
This kept me going. Thanks

I'd be slightly upset if a team member felt they couldn't reach out, regardless of the day or time.
Then I'd insist on some personal time, with the offer of support and/or coffee if needed.
Always look after your team. Most important resource.
Today I have written to our amazing
@roathparkprm
families to thank them for the tremendous efforts they have put into online learning and to share some vulnerabilities I have experienced working fulltime as being a father during this period.

A lack of leadership, a lack of consistency in leadership (I.e leaders having favourites) and a lack of focus on what a school is about, the children. Schools need to promote a balance of work life balance. My favourite part of our staff wellbeing charter is section 5...
Tomorrow, for the first time since March, I'll have to wear big boy trousers, a grown up shirt and possibly a tie. Let's not mention proper shoes. I've only worn trousers 3 times since March!! 😅
This will be a huge momentous moment! Can't wait to have
@roathparkprm
filled again!
I urge fellow school workers to try and have a weekend off and recharge the batteries for the madness December brings.
Schools are doing a great job across the country. Well done to everyone involved.

I agree family first.
But you Miss Teacher Glitter are amazing. How do I measure this? I ask, "would I want this person teaching my girls". In your case the answer is a resounding absolutely!
Thank you for sharing so much on twitter and thank you for inspiring me in my practice
A slightly strange back to work feeling tonight.
I've been appointed Assistant Director
@sewalesEAS
& cannot wait to get started working with our amazing schools.
I will combine this with my WG role for 12 months.
But for the 1st time in 18 years, I don't have school tomorrow!
2 INSET days planned for 4th&5th Jan. I've instructed staff to remain at home and we will do them virtually.
We will open for Keyworker children on Weds. The team want to be in school offering F2F learning. If I feel it is unsafe I am not afraid to ask Govs/LA to remain closed.
We managed the Covid situation well during the Aut term. Right at the end we saw a raise in staff getting infected, linked to the new strain. We want to do our jobs safely - F2F teaching. Where are we on the vaccine schedule?

My wee daughter (Y3) stood for school council today. She didn't get it. She told me,
"At least I tried my best Papa. Better to have tried than to wonder if I could've got it. I'm a little sad because I had some great ideas".
This kids growth mindset will make her successful!
Meet Ezra!
The girls have been nagging for a puppy for a long time.
This little 3 month old chap was under the care of Newport Dogs Home, where we volunteer dog walk. He's a Collie-X they named Rex.

I'm shocked and saddened to read how some of the media is treating Lee Hill. Name calling and "attempted" professional shaming is never right and we need to stand against it.
From what I've seen on Twitter, and read from parents, Lee is an outstanding HT. I

I know where to start, if you're not committed to all children in this country receiving a quality education then you are not passionate enough and should consider something else. I'm truly shocked by this attitude.
Today we wished our Y6s all the very best for their next adventure at High School. We didn't say goodbye because
@roathparkprm
will always be their school. I don't mind admitting I was choked up, especially with the video.
I would like to thank the team who made this day for Y6.

Today we remember the 16 children and 1 teacher who went to school on the morning of 13.3.1996 and never come home. I remember this day like yesterday. I was still in school and my RE teacher was from

and was so upset.
Rest easy beautiful souls.
Today I had the pleasure and privilege of meeting my Y6 Primary school teacher Mrs Holcroft. I adored this woman and she is another part of why I wanted to be a teacher. Mrs H now leads amazing WWII days at

and
@roathparkprm
loved it today. Take your class, its fab!
I've wanted a sub 30 5k for a while. Set the target and went for it this morning. I'm built for comfort, not speed!! But I've been inspired by the team and pupils attitude of "we can do this"
@roathparkprm
this week!
This beautiful girl is leaving our
@roathparkprm
family today to return home to Hungary. L you're a smashing girl & we will miss you, your brother and family. Remember, "Once a Roath Parker, Always a Roath Parker" and you are always part of our family. Sok szerencset! Good luck!
@Teacherglitter
My only concern about part time teachers is... they often work full time and get paid part time. So my concern is for their own wellbeing (supportive comment and I guess pt teachers make decisions that suit them well - hopefully you'll get my point!!)

Thank you once again Kirsty for the clarity of message and leadership you are showing. You really are representing the children, school staff and children in Wales with compassion, understanding and sense. Diolch!

I try to avoid being political on here. However, accusing pupils of bunking off to look after the interests of our planet during a time when the government has shut down parliament is a little rich.
It was great to see the leader of Cardiff Council supporting pupils yesterday.
