With all the talk of ensuring of ‘continuity of learning’, ‘online schooling’ & ‘distance learning’ let us not lose sight of the social, emotional, health & wellbeing needs of our learners, families & teams - the ramifications of which could far outweigh lost learning 1/2
2/2 There are HTs, staff & govs who have given a lot to ensure the return to school works for all. Today, many of those with models that ‘blocked’ days/weeks in school are left with learners potentially losing out - back to the drawing board & 1 week to go!

Here’s to all our amazing colleagues in schools across Wales, who should feel proud of their commitment & resilience. Despite the lack of systemic acknowledgement, it’s been nothing short of chaos, and imo, the most challenging half term in the past 19years. Now, go do your thing
MY BUDGET ISN’T THE PROBLEM ⚠️ 🧵👇🏽-Spending time over the Easter break to genuinely establish how feasible it will be to run an effective & improving school on my meagre 2023-24 budget! Here’s my take? It’s not a budget-it’s actually so much more than a budget! 1/8
As HT of one of these schools, Dr Martin Price accurately & eloquently articulates our situation, the sentiments of my colleagues & commitment of our collective governing bodies ~ We are awash with ambitious policy & yet unable to resource the most basic of school functions.

New wave of positive Covid cases appearing across colleagues, friends and family - incl those who have previously had it and fully vax’d. New variant? 🤔 Let’s hope Covid knows that it doesn’t exist from the 28th 😁 - with the reduction in testing and reporting, easy to ignore.
Please sign the petition to review inadequate funding for schools. School funding in Wales has always been an issue that was never properly addressed. It genuinely saddens me to see this becoming part of the future blueprint for Wales’ education system.

Singapore refresh, refurbish or rebuild schools approx every 8 years. All schools we saw were spacious, light and fit for purpose. Reflecting on both schools I work with: How do we, in Wales, ensure that all children have equity of access to high quality learning environments?

ministers must resist pressures to whimsically bounce schools back into service. Anyone who thinks proper social distancing can be done in...school has either never met a child, or been in a school. A properly planned and clearly communicated return is the least everyone is owed

I know some colleagues are already getting stuck into this - ensuring ‘play’ is integral to how they support children’s development, across their schools. If you are looking to develop a shared understanding of play within your class/school, this is a great place to start👇🏽

Yet another example that we are happy to do education ‘on the cheap’. Our policy ambitions, in Wales, are commendable but implementation remains hamstrung by the reality of investment - amongst other key factors. Is it time for another quango bonfire & resetting back to basics?
These figures are crushing really. Trying to be positive but ed funding in Wales cut again will hit hard in a place where there’s nothing left to cut. You can talk about well-being, standards, curriculum, ALN & school improvement all you want. Without £ it’s an empty aspiration.
