Wouldn’t have said that set of substitutions would trigger a Carlisle mini-collapse but Wearne, Ellis subs backfired on us. Don’t let that turn into mass panic. On any other day we’d have scored four. Fine margins let us down, but we finally look a threat from the right and left

Thinking about the fact that this bill is the only initiative to which this government has shown unswerving commitment. And that it's likely to be its most notable legacy. Not mentioned in the manifesto and flies in the teeth of any progressive belief.
Explosive revelation from @Tanni_GT that civil servants outside the limited Bill team are being tasked with working full-time on implementation of the assisted suicide Bill. This is a government Bill in all but name, and a massive distraction from more vital government work.

NEW - we've data showing huge numbers of people reducing their income to avoid high marginal income tax rates. Not just at the £100k point (as previously reported). But at the £50k point:

The government will make sure the bill is 'workable' and 'legally robust'. It will NOT guarantee it is safe. That is a 'matter of policy' and not for the govt. MPs feeling any regret yet? Did you expect 'safety' to be an after thought for govt? Thank you @Tanni_GT!

Rachel Reeves is now a hopelessly mixed-up metaphor of a Chancellor: trying to fill a now even-deeper hole of her own making, she’s painted herself into a corner as well. Time for some more indiscriminate mud-throwing at the Tories, I predict.

I can't think of another piece of legislation so ostentatiously championed by privilege, so driven by corporate opportunism, so precisely targetted at the vulnerable, so marinaded in supersition. This is what the Great Reform act was supposed to prevent.
At the Joint Committee on Human Rights today, @thelizcarr makes an excellent point. The one safeguard that is needed is that #assistedsuicide remains illegal. Bravo!

Entertaining myself with the definition of 'pet' being inserted by the Renters' Rights Act 2025. Probably should add: '(e) Fear of retribution from the animal if otherwise' to cover most cats

There’s an old saying: There’s a sucker at every poker table, and if you can’t spot who it is, it’s you. Starmer, Lammy, Cooper et al thought that they could get concessions from Brussels just by being “not the Tories”. If they weren’t so arrogant they would have understood

All things considered, “other people sincerely hold political views different from mine” is a more probable explanation for the phenomenon of disagreement than “those who disagree with me are being paid/suborned/blackmailed by shadowy forces and dark money.”

@OldRoberts953 Until the Speaker allows him to ride into the Commons on a jet ski Ed Davey is never going to make a splash.

As with so many things they said in opposition Lab bemoaned Tory infighting (as did lots of Tories to be frank) and when in Government decided: “Call that infighting, we’ll show you infighting. Demonstrate your parliamentary party is unmanageable? How do you like THESE apples?!”

Interesting that some people who regularly call for the resignation of the PM are sharing interesting takes on the resignation of the BBC Director General

Games played makes this a false table. But with 6 points between the top 6, it is very tight. Games in hand won will make it even tighter unless Rochdale win all their three. York/Rochdale and FGR/Tamworth on Tuesday could make it 3 points between the top 6, if York and FGR win
