Meanwhile in the USA, when children are harmed and isolated — programs are shut down, people face criminal charges and lawsuits are unleashed. In England, it’s a free-for-all. Let’s not forget Hesley, where children were harmed, the public were outraged, but no one was held.

I discuss the lawsuits against Camp SAYLA in this story. Children were beaten, isolated, and forced to fight. This case is about justice, but it’s also a warning: this kind of abuse won’t be tolerated @WDHN @StaceyJSpiehler @ICARSBanRandS @1SirCrypto .

It’s disappointing that in 2025, we’re still having to explain this. Communication rights are disability rights. The fact that so many people remain uneducated in this space should concern us all.

If you care about rights, you have to care about communication rights. Not just for those who communicate in a way you’re used to. For everyone. Especially for disabled and neurodivergent people who’ve been silenced, dismissed, or spoken over too many times.

Disability advocacy that ignores communication rights isn’t inclusive — it’s conditional. And that’s not advocacy. That’s ableism dressed up as collaboration.

Ableism shows up when people assume there’s only one “right” way to communicate. It shows up when neurodivergent communication is treated as less professional, too emotional, too blunt, too slow, too “much.”.We reject that.

We follow the lead and are in step with the amazing advocates at.@Communica1st. If you’re not sure what we’re speaking about and want to learn more, check out their work. Their advocacy on communication rights is essential, and their resources are a great place to start.

Communication is not one-size-fits-all. At ICARS, we don’t expect fluency in dominant norms of speech, writing, tone, or formality. We expect respect for how people communicate — not just what they say.

When we say ICARS works with and alongside the disabled community, we mean it. Some of our team members are disabled and/or neurodivergent. If you're reaching out, please remember that the person responding may communicate differently — and that’s not just accepted here, it’s.

As August nears, U.S. legislative groundwork is already underway across the country. As many of us know, summer and autumn are when key decisions are made, bill language is shaped, coalitions are built, and momentum takes hold. Here’s to everyone pushing forward for the 2026.
