John Burton was a giant of San Francisco & California politics. He moved mountains for our community & stood up for progressive values even when it wasn’t popular. His passing is a huge loss. As authoritarianism rises, John’s memory gives us resolve to fight. Rest in power.

.@ezraklein is right: We need to take risks to stop this creeping fascism. Saying no — whether states, Democrats in Congress, universities, health systems, law firms — is scary & painful. But it’s our only option. Otherwise fascism is normalized. We can’t let that happen.

We worked all summer to finalize this critical loan. It’s beyond disappointing that the Department of Finance has just pulled the plug. We’re committed to this bridge financing & will keep pushing over the fall until we return to session in January. This is incredibly important.

We’re working to authorize a November 2026 Bay Area ballot measure to stabilize & improve our transit systems. Mayor @DanielLurie is working locally on a companion measure. That funding will start in 2027. The purpose of this loan is to bridge the time gap.

We’ve been informed by the Governor’s Department of Finance that it won’t agree before our legislative session ends (on Friday) to finalize a $750M bridge loan to Bay Area transit. This loan was agreed to in our June budget. Without it, BART, Muni, et al will cut service.🧵.

The Bay Area doesn’t function without transit. We relearn this every time BART goes down. BART, Muni, Caltrain & AC Transit will unravel unless we step in with funding. We’re fighting for state support & working toward a 2026 ballot measure to provide stable funding.

By targeting the construction workforce with his mass deportation terror campaign & enacting chaotic & unpredictable tariffs, Trump is exploding housing construction costs & making it hard even to plan. Trump is upending our ability to build the homes we need.

My bills to make SF safer & more vibrant are heading to the Governor!. SB 395 authorizes 20 low costs liquor licenses for restaurants opening in Union Square/Yerba Buena. SB 276 gives SF new tool to stop sale of stolen goods on SF streets, which pushes out legit street vendors.

The pro-polio, pro-measles, pro-tetanus movement strikes again.

These thugs love threatening to invade & occupy American cities with the military & secret police — as if these cities were enemy nations. We must do everything in our power to stop these fascists & hold them accountable for their crimes.

Mayor Lurie is proposing a long overdue re-zoning to allow more homes, particularly by transit. It’ll help make SF more affordable. NIMBY-in-chief Aaron Peskin is opposed & threatening a ballot measure. Such a measure will fail. The era of empowering housing obstruction is over.

The next conservative era has arrived. Join the movement rebuilding America from the ground up.

Not building housing screws young people, pushes them out & tanks future economic success. We need to make it easier & faster to build the homes we need for a bright future. Our current vetocracy need to change & we’re working to change it.

Weeks after swastikas were painted on a school in a heavily Jewish LA neighborhood, swastikas have been painted on an LA synagogue & Jewish-owned business. This flows directly from the normalization of antisemitic rhetoric on left & right. It’s appalling.
