Happy birthday, America! Yes to democracy! No to fascism!

It’s hard to overstate how deeply GOP in Congress & their cult leader Trump betrayed the American people. What’s going to happen in CA — millions losing health care & food benefits, seniors kicked out of nursing homes — will happen everywhere. They must be removed from power.

Just when you thought institutions had stopped caving to Trump, the complicity returns:. UVA dumps its President under federal pressure. U Penn strips Lia Thomas of her medal under federal pressure. CBS settles (read: bribes) with Trump by paying him $16M. THEY’RE FUELING FASCISM.

Republicans are trying to recall Sup Engardio not just b/c he supported building a popular new park but also b/c he thinks building more homes is a good thing. This recall isn’t just about one Supervisor — it’s a conservative backlash against having an affordable, livable city.

In one fell swoop, they destroyed access to health care, shut down hospitals, upended clean energy, massively expanded their secret police & took food away from kids. All to cut taxes for the rich. It’s one of the biggest betrayals of Americans in the history of our country.

The Republican Party is working to recall Supervisor Engardio because he supported turning 2 miles of a crumbling coastal road into one of the most popular parks in San Francisco.

We don’t need ski-masked secret police in California. It’s why we’re advancing legislation to ban this kind of masking by law enforcement.

So much of power is about perception. If this bill goes down, perhaps we’ll see the first crack in the facade for the regime. When cracks start, regimes can quickly unravel. Perhaps trying to throw tens of millions off health care & out of nursing homes was a bridge too far.

BIG HOUSING NEWS: Our bill allowing more housing near transit stations (SB 79) just passed the Assembly Housing Committee!. SB 79 will make transit-oriented development the norm in California — building the homes we need, increasing transit ridership & helping our climate goals.

Just days after we passed our state budget & fully protected funding for K-12 schools in California — even after closing a $12B deficit — Trump randomly cut billions from public schools nationally. He doesn’t care if he hurts kids. He’s only cares about control & retribution.

As Trump viciously attacks higher education — slashing funding & bullying — in California we protected funding for the University of CA & Cal State University. We rejected proposed cuts in our new budget. CA stands for higher education, critical thinking & scientific research.

As fascism rises, we get to see who resists & who collaborates. Penn & UVA are collaborating — folding like cheap tents. They won’t benefit, of course, since a bully always comes back for more. And history will remember. Just like it remembers who made what choices in the 1930s

What do Elon Musk & Zohran Mamdani have in common? Trump threatened today to deport both of them. The thing about fascist regimes is they don’t care whether you’re aligned or not aligned with them politically. If you threaten them in any way, they’ll try to take you down.

This is classic Putin stuff: When a billionaire leaves the team & crosses you, you strip his assets & then either deport, imprison or kill him. It sends a loud message to other rich people: Support the regime & don’t question it or you’re done.
