That feeling when the Governor signs your bill allowing more homes near public transit & you then walk from your 39-unit apartment building to get on the subway. Housing + transit = perfect combo

I just approved major pieces of legislation to keep building more affordable housing. Whether it's turning empty office buildings into residential spaces or building more homes near public transportation, we're doing all we can to lower the price to realize the California Dream.

MAJOR NEWS: @GavinNewsom signed SB 79, my bill allowing more housing near public transit — rail, subway, rapid bus. It’s a huge step for housing in California. It’ll create more homes, strengthen our transit systems & reduce traffic & carbon emissions. Thank you, Governor!

The bill helps prevent new housing element constraints — a space I’ve dedicated years of my life to, and a critical one for cities to hit their RHNA targets

The BIG outstanding challenge is about funding and project feasibility. We both need massive increases in subsidy for Affordable Housing + ensure market rate housing is feasible. Today, we celebrate! 🎉🎉🎉

We're not done. We still need to effectively implement these laws and ensure local jurisdictions follow the law. But California has put the framework in place to solve this problem.

✅ Process reform (Summer CEQA package) ✅ Process reform (Permitting Package) ✅ Code reform (Zoning) 2025 has been the best housing year to date! Thank you Governor @GavinNewsom, Senator @Scott_Wiener, Asm. @BuffyWicks, Speaker @RobertRivas_CA & Senate Pro Tem @ilike_mike.
HUGE NEWS!! YIMBY’S REJOICE !! California is making historic strides today as @CAGovernor Gavin Newsom signs #SB79 — streamlining the building of more housing all across the Golden State. No, it does not supersede local control as some have falsely claimed. No, it is not

Nothing better than getting laughed at in a hearing. It’s louder than cheer imo

In @cityofpaloalto AGAIN trying to get 70 units of housing approved. The opposition…seniors, who think hot young singles will ruin the neighborhood - it’s going to be a long night, pour one out for me 🍻

A must listen 🔊
Had a great chat about my research into US building codes and the perverse incentives that shape them with @ShaneDPhillips and @elpaavo as part of their UCLA Housing Voice podcast. Hope you listen and enjoy!

Culver City is the 1st in CA to legalize single-stair buildings up to 6 stories 🏗️—slimmer buildings with bigger, family-sized homes full of light & air. Credit to @bubbathefish, @AbundantHousing & HAC SoCal Dir. @jessezwick for making it happen!
