Last night, we celebrated our 10th anniversary with a lively discussion on state and local housing innovation. Thank you to the extraordinary leaders who shared their insights: @BuffyWicks (with @BenTMetcalf), moderator @pj_housing, Tomiquia Moss, Nithya Raman, and @rvisnauskas.

Award honorees also included California lawmakers Attorney General @AGRobBonta & Assemblymembers @BuffyWicks & @BauerKahan. Bringing their musical talents to the event was an ensemble led by Emmy Award-winning and Grammy-nominated violinist Robert McDuffie.

Excited for what’s ahead — we’ll be focused on funding affordable housing, promoting innovation in housing construction to bring down costs, and making it easier for Californians to move into homeownership.

These bills, inspired by the Select Committee on Permitting Reform, cut red tape, set clear timelines, and hold local agencies accountable for moving projects forward — so homes get built faster, costs come down, and families can move in sooner.

For too long, it’s taken years — sometimes decades — to build the homes our families need in CA. Endless red tape, slow approvals, and outdated rules have left too many Californians struggling to find or afford a place to live. The Fast Track Housing Package changes that.

Yesterday’s warnings forced families to brace for raids that never should’ve been planned in the first place. Calling them off is the right move — but the damage to trust and safety is real. We’ll stay organized, peaceful, and ready to defend our neighbors.

As we exercise our right to peaceful protest, I urge everyone to refrain from blocking bridges, fed. buildings, or other fed-operated infrastructure. It's exactly the kind of provocation these operations are designed to exploit. We won’t give them what they need to incite chaos.

Trump’s use of federal agents for immigration sweeps is an evolving situation across the Bay Area. As details unfold, let’s keep our focus on protecting each other — not feeding the narrative Trump wants to spin.

Sending in National Guard troops makes everyone less safe. Footage from other cities occupied by National Guard troops paints a clear picture: The Trump Admin wants to deploy military force, provoke a response, then capture it all on camera to justify future repression.

Let me be clear: San Francisco does not want or need a military occupation. Despite Republican fantasies to the contrary, San Francisco has a lower crime rate than many Republican-run states and municipalities.

It was wonderful to tour the People’s Park Housing site & see this long-overdue project moving forward on schedule. By creating homes for >1,000 students, we’re easing the campus housing crunch, stabilizing rents, & strengthening the surrounding community — a win for everyone.
