Wow, how horrible.
The news media and FBI will spend a week building up hype about a garage door rope with a loop tied in the end. But this is basically no big deal -- we're not supposed to care much.

"Southwest Airlines CEO Says No Employees Will Be Fired Over Vaccine Mandate."
That sounds like weasel words. Will they be placed on unpaid leave? Will they be given all the worst assignments at the worst hours?
@OrwellNGoode
I don't understand this. There are homes for sale in my county for $150,000 and less (and there are plenty of jobs that pay a lot better than min wage). That true all over the US. If someone *chooses* to live in a high-priced area that's on them. I don't want to hear complaints.

It's depressing to read many of the replies to this. Reality stares people in the face and they claim it's not there. Earnest upper middle class whites can deny any reality they don't like.

The authors say the recruiting shortfall is "unfortunate." I don't know ... maybe. Or maybe it shows good judgement from the youth of America.

Ugh. "Poverty" is such a lame excuse for crime. With a median income of $31k and an average of $42k, black Americans are some of the wealthiest people on earth. It's equivalent to nice countries like Belgium, S. Korea and New Zealand.
@DoctorTurtleboy
You probably saw this the other day -- the Canton 9 are going to appeal the denial of their injunction. That's great. The opinion from Judge Casper seemed like very poor reasoning to me. I hope the appeals could will agree.

The whole story is very bizarre. Liberals believe black citizens can't get ahead in America because earnest white women want to steal their stuff. That logic is beyond my ability to understand.

Libs always tell us the same three things.
1 It's not happening / It's a conspiracy theory.
2 It's happening and it's good.
3 It's happening and it's bad for you and you deserve it.
@GodCloseMyEyes
Yeah it's odd. The biggest sin that's possible in America today is to have a less than totally positive views about African American citizens. Then you can be fired, evicted, ostracized, beaten, jailed and even killed--and lots of Americans will be quite pleased about that.
@gunpolicy
It's just so bizarre to me that the anti-gunners make a big deal about whether a rifle has a bayonet lug. They *really* want the bayonet lug removed. I wonder if there has ever been a crime in the US done with a bayonet.

That girl behind him, in the turquoise shirt, is basically his human shield while he's drawing his weapon. I'm not sure that's ethical. But it seems to work out in this case.

I've come to doubt or seriously question almost everything I was told about psychology. In addition to the things you mention:

Is that what whites in the audience are thinking? I think it's more like, "Yes, all those hateful white racists in the middle of the country are deplorable, almost sub-human. I'm one of the good, enlightened people with empathy. I'm *so* glad I'm not like those awful people."

Isn't there a fourth option -- to swap out the barrel with one that is at least 16 inches and dispose of the old barrel? It seems to me that would work. It avoids registration and allows the owner to keep it legally.

It's funny that "They are afraid to say so in pubic." Even in 1958 the taboo about discussing this topic was strong. When was that last time a public comment on this topic was allowed in the north? It was some time in the 1930s or 1940s I guess.

Ugh. The Gadsden flag is a wholesome symbol of American patriotism. Shame on these administrators. I hope the young man will sue -- hold them accountable for their misconduct.
The US Navy uses a variation of the Gadsden flag. Are they racist too?

I'm struck by the homicide differences between Brazil and India, and by the standard of living in both countries. The idea that "poverty causes crime" was always dumb Marxism -- but sadly some people believe it. (source: CIA World Factbook)

This shit is really sick. If governments don't step in to shut this down hard then I'm worried about the reaction to this. Messing with children is not going to go over well with (most) parents.
This is a pretty good post. But I think it misses a huge factor when looking at communism vs. capitalism.
Under capitalism people have incentives for productive work. They get rewards. Under communism the incentives are weak or non-existent. That's an enormous difference.
This is an excellent summary of the economic argument against central planning, as with Communism. There's so much more that can be said to add to it, too. Communism really is a catastrophe in every regard.
@OliviaLambo_
Yeah I guess they wanted to give the impression there was an ironclad, open and shut case. I assume that's a strategy to demoralize the defendant and try for a quick plea bargain. It's also a strategy to shape public opinion.
Lots of reporters wanted to talk to Roshawn Drane in the past, about his brother who died. But now that there's an arrest warrant out for him they decided he's not news-worthy any more.

I'm sorry to read about this danger to these women.
Sweden has brought in a lot of dangerous people over the last few decades. This influx seem to be what the Swedish people want. But others will pay the price for that.
If being a "witness" places someone beyond any public criticism in Massachusetts then every powerful person is going to find a case where they can be a "witness" or a family member can be a "witness."
Chris Albert sent this message to a constituent in August who was criticizing his public behavior and asking him to resign as a Selectmen. He pretends that this middle aged woman is "intimidating" him, and tells her to "be careful" about saying negative things about him.

That's a good post. It's weird to me how lots of people today think they're so much smarter and more moral and more sophisticated than humans have been for the last 10,000 years. It's like they think all of human history is wrong and they're right.

I'm not sure this part of the UCMJ applies to retirees. I don't think that's a settled issue. But the ONI leadership wants to imply it's true. That's a stretch.
Ugh. In the past I've often defended police officers. I assume they are mostly the good guys. I really need to re-examine that attitude. These two are horrible. They're trying to cover up a murder and frame the wrong person, sending her to prison for life.
Michael Proctor and Yuri Bukhenik panicked and interviewed Lucky Loughran 2 days after I did to find out what the FBI asked him. It's clear from their line of questioning that their primary goal was to pursue wiretapping charges against me, and discredit Loughran's story because
