It's increasingly important to understand, & use, critical lenses in quant work conducted in education research. but Hasn't been an intellectual home for scholars advancing/applying critical quantitative methods. Now, in #AERA, there can be! 🚨 petition:

Love when people say "the data speaks for itself" as if we didn't spend centuries specifically developing statistical methods because data absolutely does not speak for itself.

I have a new piece w/@stats_tipton & @artilesaj out in @TCRecord today. The big idea: "We need to design impact evaluations that value understanding variation as much as understanding average impact." https://t.co/ykZyocvm8A

Don't let departments underpay you because "inequality within/across rank." It's not your fault that Prof Bob has been in the dept since Jesus walked the Earth and hasn't published in 20 years. Your pay shouldn't be contingent upon Prof Bob's weak ass CV.

Hey folks, I'm looking for someone with expertise in adaptive intervention design (e.g., SMART) to be a consultant or Co-I on an R01 application. Does anyone know someone who may be interested?

Peer review in higher ed journals is so abysmally slow at this point that R&R or rejection notifications is how I find out what I had under review. Because I cannot (bother to) remember for that long.

I believe it should be a federal crime to publish a scale validation paper without including the items, instructions, response options, and scoring within the manuscript. All reviewers and editors who let scale validation papers be published without these are complicit.

As I wait to roll over from 249 to 250 citations, I'm particularly proud that: -my most-cited piece is out of my dissertation -my next four pieces are with 3 different highest authors

I have four 1:1s planned at #AERA24 but I'm pretty sure I'm forgetting people I should reconnect with. Also, as always, happy to talk to grad students.

and go to SIG business meetings; the most effective networking tool I've found. The 20 other people who share that interest with you SO MUCH that they went to the same business meeting? Good contacts.
My AERA tip: attend 1-2 sessions a day and spend the rest of your time sharing space with other beautiful humans with coffee, tea, food, other drinks, walks, and checking out the city.

We got tired of waiting for our local leaders to act 😴 So we're introducing our new pedestrian safety pilot: BRICKS (TM)! 🧱 Thanks to @nicthedoor & @aboutherevideos for creating this video for us!

📢 Friends! Let's put together a panel for @APPAM_DC #APPAM2024 on college access/HS-to-college pipeline. We have a cool paper on targeted college advising w/ CRM data + short (app, aid) & long-term (enroll, persist) outcomes. Who wants to partner? Happy to coordinate.

I forget what article I was working on when I selected an entire paragraph (of @Dcollier74 ?) and said "this seems like a really great section of a different paper"

from degree; primary issue is THEIR experience, not (esp. not quant) comparative w/continuing-gen/higher-income students. Review by De Schepper, dissertation by @bdernberger, & piece by Hirudayaraj are the core of what I've found so far. What else should be informing my thinking?
