Another way of interpreting this is: 10 years ago Owen had a particular perspective on independence, focused on making the whole of Britain better via a left-wing government.
In the 10 years since then, the left has been crushed, and he's changed his mind. I think that's fair.
Jones has a telling relationship with Scottish independence.
When the independence movement was big, he polemicised against it.
Only when it manifested a centrist, establishment 'progressivism' was it celebrated as an alternative to the Tories.

My politics, in practice, are pragmatic and social democratic. There are a lot of people who are far more left than me.
But many of the folks on the Labour Right are so right-wing that *even* my relatively mild politics are indistinguishable from communism in their minds.

Lots of Labour people remain baffled by how Rahman keeps beating them, and it really comes down to the fact that he's a fairly normal politician who promises basic public service provision from the state and delivers it, something Labour gave up on about 20 years ago

I find it odd when Starmer fans dismiss my complaints about his leadership by saying that I was never going to vote Labour.
I literally *have* voted Labour under Starmer. I stayed a member nearly 2yrs after he won. I'm more pragmatic than most assume. But I also have principles.

Very funny that when it comes to the question of backing Keir Starmer's Labour Party, the Greens take a more leftwing stance than the Communist Party of Great Britain
A Labour victory at the next general election would be a better outcome than a Conservative victory, raising working-class morale and demands.
