First good news for some time. Congratulations @keirstarmer who can bring back intelligence, principle, judgment - all essential for #Labour to be of service to the country. The Corbyn years brought terrible shame and monstrous defeat. The clearer the new start the better.

Vladimir Putin’s contempt for, or fear of, a People’s Vote will not shock anybody. The overwhelming evidence of malign and multiple Russian interventions in western democratic processes, including the Brexit referendum, have been designed to destabilize democratic rule.

This is SO disingenuous from @michaelgove He is intelligent enough to be ashamed. The EU have negotiated a deal framed by BRITISH red lines (re CU, SM, NI). He cannot stamp his feet and shout for them to move - unless he moves. Ball in his court.

Betrayal is the cry of the Left against Labour in govt. Now we have seen the truth: Betrayal is when an in-credible, sectarian Labour opposition fails to provide a viable alternative to a distrusted Tory party. They get rumbled. The Tories win. The country loses.

FT says £7bn. Times says £13bn. Just for customs. On Government figures. This is nuts.

It is an insult to the United Kingdom that he should be lecturing us our democratic process. The idea that democratic consent for Brexit policy should end on 23 June 2016 is dangerous. Theresa May’s plan satisfies no one and was not the basis of the Leave campaign.

This is what Angela Merkel represents at the ceremonies this week. A Germany which has learnt from its history. It is not “awkward” that Germany retains faith in a rules based cooperative international order. It remembers the alternative.

Brexit would be important for Britain at any time. But this is not just any time. In the era of Trump and Russian aggression, EU withdrawal is more reckless than ever. My thoughts on why Labour must back a new Brexit referendum, on @NewStatesman

So: 1. For large parts of economy we are leaving EU to make our own decision to stay in lock step with EU. 2. This will create costs. 3. For other sectors we don’t know what we want to be different. 4. Gains are unclear. And this is progress?

Until now Brexit has been a source of bemusement in America. There is now seething fury. That’s before you get to the implications for the ability of the West to tell a coherent story about rule of law to tackle the world’s Age of Impunity. Surely Britain is better than this.

We are talking about the appointment of a LEGISLATOR in a western democracy. Not a bauble or a “gong” but the power to make laws. And we wonder why Putin could conceivably have honed his contempt for western liberalism into a belief in our weakness.

Required reading to understand Britain’s crisis-that-dare-not-speak-its-name. As ⁦ @chrisgreybrexit ⁩ points out, talking about #Brexit with respect and seriousness does not mean re-fighting 2016; it does mean addressing the 2020s with realism.

Air deliveries of aid to Gaza are unsafe, highly expensive, ineffective, and dehumanizing. Authorities can and must do more to create safe and effective land routes for distribution of aid.

It’s terrible that the leadership has brought our party into such gross disrepute. At least now the veil of unctuous denials, whitewash reports, diversionary attacks, has been breached. Now we need actions to haul ourselves out of the depths.

This is so right. One of the great things about the UK is its arts and culture. Every part of it. This is not just our “national heritage”. It’s our future. Jobs and enjoyment. There is no excuse for throwing it away.

We are busy turning some of our best friends into adversaries with every careless anti-European comment. Neglectful of the painful past that finally drew us together in peace, and heedless of a future in which we will continue to be neighbours.

The abolition of BBC Singers by BBC management is another own goal. 100 years of opportunity and excellence out of the window. Just terrible misjudgment with blather as cover. We need @GaryLineker and @GNev2 on this too!

Sorry but this is superb again from ⁦ @chrisgreybrexit ⁩. The contradictory explanations of what Brexit is and isn’t doing to the UK are a feature not a bug of a contradictory project. It reveals unfinished debates about us not them.

It would be prudent reinforcement of democratic principles to revisit democratic support before it is implemented. Russian support for a Bad Deal alongside British government threats of No Deal should be taken as strong evidence that a different option is needed.

The Labour Party is full of good principled people like ⁦ @IanAustinMP ⁩. It is so important never to lose the outrage at what is being done to our party by its leadership. The hypocrisy and denial-ism are a threat to our whole purpose.
