Am now mostly off to Bluesky — don’t have time for both places and the chat over there seems more useful than here.

Fascinating on how erecting trade barriers can impact investment, based on Brexit experience of UK.

Thread on what Brexit might tell us about how US tariffs could impact investment. We saw 2 key impacts:. 1)UK FDI into EU went up (but in a very particular way).2)Business investment in UK flatlined. US hopes a version of 1) will happen. What does Brexit experience suggest?. 1/.

A stellar line-up, if you'll forgive the pun. (I wouldn't). Lots of the major 'reset' players taking part.

There are high hopes for #bonusseason in the City this year - but how does yours measure up? Early entries to the FT's Bonus Survey show the trend is for lower base pay and higher incentives. it's anonymous and fast if you're one of the lucky ones:

@SamCoatesSky Whatever flavour of deal Labour does, the Right will cry betrayal and conspiracy to “undo Brexit”, so arguably Starmer might as well get something meaningful for his troubles. But as with fiscal side, the original sins of the ‘ming vase’ manifesto make all of this hard. 9/ENDS.

Worth recalling the original paucity of ambition/cakeism in Labour manifesto. To “tear down the barriers to trade”…while sticking with the same red lines that created them. Tho as @SamCoatesSky says, the political price of more ambition are baked in…/8.

Most likely they make a big deal of security elements - Starmer to Belgium for dinner with EU27 Feb 3 - and the hard stuff on trade/mobility etc potters on, but nowhere too fast. /7.

And then there’s the rise of Reform. If the government continues to wobble as it is now, if the economy gets worse, not better, that could (as some hope) add ambition to EU reset. I have doubts. Courage is not a quality this govt has shown this far. But 🤷‍♂️/6.
