I think we might take a minute to ask why the American government has sent a real estate developer and the president's son in law to negotiate directly with Vladimir Putin, rather than - say - the secretary of state, or a professional diplomat, or indeed anyone with training.
Would very much prefer to see Sec Rubio, who has deeper understanding of #Russia-#Ukraine war and of how any deal would impact US interests, at this table.

Putin intends to wage a very long war that entails „compromises“ legitimizing temporary territorial gains. He agreed on 29 ceasefires with Ukraine between 2014-2022, only to violate each one of them until he was able to launch the full-scale invasion. This war goes beyond 2030.
Putin clearly has no intention to compromise. He says he believes Ukrainian front line is close to collapse and Ukrainian armed forces are about to lose their combat effectiveness. Why compromise if you think you can win outright?
