NEW: Russian troops are carrying out “systematic” chemical weapons attacks on Ukrainian troops across the frontline, according to multiple Ukrainian soldiers I spoke to.
My piece for The Telegraph:👇
Thousands of Russians moved to Sri Lanka to avoid conscription after the outbreak of war, tried to implement their own version of apartheid - banning locals from the businesses they set up - and are now being deported.
Watching videos of Ukrainian farmers stealing Russian military equipment worth tens of millions of pounds - in this case a Tor-M2 SAM system - will absolutely never get old.👇🇺🇦
I can't quite believe what I'm seeing here; a Ukrainian farmer apparently capturing an abandoned Russian 9K33 OSA surface-to-air missile system by simply hooking it up to his tractor and driving away with it.🇺🇦
This is what the replies to any large account now look like; AI generated and low effort copypasted replies from "verified" accounts trying to game Twitter's revenue sharing scheme. Musk claimed his "verification" would stop spam; it's in fact made it vastly worse.
Some pretty incredible footage of Macron talking to Zelensky on the morning of the invasion, when the scale of the full-scale Russian assault on Ukraine was becoming clear.
The head of the DNR, Denis Pushilin, awarding a medal to Lieutenant Colonel Timur Kurilkin for "destroying 250 Nazis" - which is ironic, considering Kurilkin has two neo-Nazi patches clearly visible on his uniform.
Imagine if the CEO of Blackwater publicly declared his intention to march on Washington D.C., shot down multiple USAF aircraft and killed an unknown number of American soldiers, and then was given legal immunity and allowed to maintain his huge private army by the President.🙃
"Children’s shoes for sale. Never worn.”
Russian Telegram channel mocks the death of six-year-old Sophia Holynska who was killed in Russia's missile strike on Chernihiv yesterday.
The post has nearly 47,000 "laughing" reactions from Russian social media users.
A reminder that you don't get to invade someone's country and then dictate the terms under which they can resist your invasion. Ukraine has every moral and legal right under international law to take the fight to Russia on the territory of the Russian Federation.
Pictures from inside the completed NHS Nightingale hospital at Excel Centre, which was built in *one week*. This is an incredible achievement and everyone involved should be very proud👇
Reportedly filmed in Crimea, this video shows a Russian Sukhoi Su-25 heroically demilitarising itself in a demonstration of solidarity with Ukraine.🔥🇺🇦
Boris Johnson and Volodymyr Zelenskyy going walkabout in Kyiv (and probably causing Johnson's close protection detail to age about 20 years in the process).
Video circulating of Palestinian terrorists gunning down Israeli civilians in their homes and pulling drivers from vehicles and slitting their throats.
This isn't war, or "resistance", it's deliberate slaughter of innocents.
We heard from a source in the Ukrainian government this was happening last year. "Hundreds" of prisoners of war had been returned, alive, but castrated.
We didn't report this at the time, as it was deemed it could add to the trauma the men had suffered.
Just today:
• Prigozhin and Utkin killed by their own side.
• Ukraine blew up an S-400 battery in Crimea.
• A Russian pilot and his Mi-8AMTSh is confirmed to have defected to Ukraine.
• At least one Ukrainian drone struck central Moscow.
Not a bad day for Ukraine.🇺🇦
Ukraine destroys a Russian landing ship, so Russia bombs a maternity hospital, shopping centres, apartment blocks and other civilian targets all over Ukraine; there's no other description for this than state terrorism.
Putin is making a live address. He's currently whining about how Hollywood refuses to make movies about the Russian contribution to defeating Nazi Germany and claiming "progressives" are trying to "cancel Russia".
In the last 24hrs:
• A video is published online of a Russian soldier castrating a live Ukrainian prisoner.
• Russia launches a cluster munition attack on Ukrainian civilians queuing for a bus.
• Russia in all likelihood murdered 40 Ukrainian POWs and tried to blame Ukraine.
Artillery shells in Ukraine. "Revenge for MH17" - the commercial airliner carrying 193 Dutch passengers that was shot down by Russia in 2014 - written on the shell in Dutch.🔥
And note that Zelensky's first instinct was to ask Macron and others to speak to Putin in order to try and end the war via diplomatic means. "Warmongering" he certainly wasn't - he just wanted to stop the killing.
"After Bucha, Borodianka, Mariupol, there can be no business with Russia" - Polish President Andrzej Duda, speaking now to the Ukrainian parliament (but probably aiming his comments at his French, German and Hungarian counterparts).
A reminder that Russian state media lies about everything.
The zoo that doesn't exist according to TASS is clearly visible on Google Maps, around 800m away from the Kakhovka dam.
Ukrainian media reports about animals who were killed by a flood at a zoo in the city of Novaya Kakhovka are untrue, because the city has no zoo at all, a spokesperson for the city’s emergencies services has told TASS:
Elon Musk's new Twitter: a "verified" account that was previously suspended for spreading disinformation about the Bucha Massacre now spreading completely fictional quotes from Volodymyr Zelenskyy with over a thousand retweets and nearly 300,000 views.
Svitlana and Khrystyna, the two young women killed in yesterday's Russian missile strike on Zaporizhzhia. This video was taken hours before the attack that killed them.
They were just 19 and 21 years old.
Some of the cartel gunmen in
#Culiac
án are incredibly heavily armed - here we see an M249 Para machine gun and an M72 LAW anti-tank rocket-propelled grenade launcher (!!!) amongst other weapons.
More Russian soldiers with neo-Nazi patches on their uniforms; the top patch is a modified "Totenkopf" - used by the S.S., which also features the unit insignia of the 1st SS Panzer Division Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler.
Apparently a verified Russian embassy account talking about prisoners of war - legally protected under the Geneva Conventions - being subjected to "execution" and a "humiliating death" is not against Twitter's rules.
I just spoke to someone with contacts inside Wagner - he confirmed that this wasn't theatre, and that Prigozhin is making a move. "It's not clear exactly what's happening right now, but it's not nothing."
Wow. Now Prigozhin says that the council of Wagner commanders have decided to deal with the military leadership of Russia adding that he will destroy everyone who appears n his way. "I ask everyone to stay calm at home, do not go outside."
Erdogan needs to understand that for many, a NATO without Turkey but with Finland and Sweden would be seen as a win/win. He should proceed carefully...
It's crazy how, in the middle of the biggest war in Europe since WW2, the Ukrainian railways are not only maintaining their current services with little to no disruption, they're also reopening decades closed international rail links.🤯
Finally! UZ and CFR have restored international railway connection between Rakhiv (UA) and Valea-Višeului (RO) in the Carpathians.
After a more than 10-year break, this region ceases to be a railway dead end. We have been waiting for this for a long time!
Footage from Israeli television showing IDF veterans training Ukrainian forces in Ukraine.🇺🇦
Shows once again how ridiculous the Russian mischaracterisation of the Ukrainians as 'Nazis' actually is.
Pro-Russian outlet "Rybar" now suggesting the Ukrainian military has completed a physical encirclement of Lyman and several surrounding settlements - trapping a significant number of Russian troops in a pocket.
Ukrainian sources are claiming this artillery strike on a 2nd Army Russian command post near Izyum, Kharkiv Oblast, killed Major General Andrey Simonov.
It's yet to be confirmed by Russian sources but it's significant they named a specific general.
A Ukrainian SOF operator - armed with an indigenous Ukrainian "Malyuk" bullpup assault rifle, and wearing a very sophisticated set of GPNVG-18 night vision goggles (that cost around $40,000).
No wonder they're having such success in night battles.🔥🇺🇦

According to Ukrainian sources the Russians once again attempted to ford the Siverskyi Donets river, near Bilohorivka, earlier this afternoon.
It went about as well as their previous attempts...
When judging the effect of the recently delivered HIMARS are having on the battlefield remember this; both the Ukrainians and the relatively few Russians that can speak freely are saying the same thing - they're devastating and the Russian military simply has no counter for them.
Reported events tonight:
• Explosions at munitions depot, Timonovo, Belgorod
• Fire/explosions at Stary Oskol Airfield, Belgorod
• Explosions in Nova Kakhovka, Kherson
• Explosions/UAV shot down near Belbek airport, Crimea
• Air defence activity near Kerch strait, Crimea
Russia moving to "all out war" (aka some form of mobilisation) really doesn't solve anything. It doesn't suddenly give them air superiority, it doesn't suddenly let them counter Ukrainian HIMARS/MLRS, it doesn't solve crippling morale and leadership issues in the Russian army.
More incredible bravery from unarmed Ukrainian civilians - completely halting the advance of a Russian armoured column by standing in the road.🇺🇦
And what is also significant is how the Russian soldiers were unwilling to violently force their through.
Ukrainian explosive ordnance disposal pull the fuse from a live, unexploded Russian bomb whilst shells land nearby.🇺🇦
These people are astonishingly brave.
None of this is true. Gonzalo Lira has not been tortured, neither is he in prison for the crime of "criticising Zelensky" - he is in prison because he attempted to skip bail after being arrested for multiple offenses, including filming the location of Ukrainian troops in Kharkiv.
Ep. 47 Gonzalo Lira is an American citizen who’s been tortured in a Ukrainian prison since July, for the crime of criticizing Zelensky. Biden officials approve of this, because they’d like to apply the same standard here. The media agree. Here’s a statement from Gonzalo Lira’s
Putin's regime arresting Yelena Osipova, survivor of the Siege of Leningrad during the Second World War, for protesting against Putin's war in St Petersburg.
What sort of government is scared of a little old lady holding placards?
I’ve spent quite a bit of time in Ukraine with the Ukrainian military. I’ve also written extensively about Western military aid to Ukraine.
It’s pretty clear to me that Amnesty Interational’s
@DRovera
is either horribly misinformed or deliberately lying about Western aid.
Is anyone at Amnesty International asking themselves why they're getting approvingly retweeted by Nazis, Stalinists, and pro-Russian propagandists, whilst being condemned by pretty much everyone else?
The Ukrainian counter-offensive in Kharkiv is the type of action that'll be written about and analyzed for decades - maybe centuries.
A truly masterful piece of strategic thinking, executed perfectly at the tactical level. We are watching military history unfolding right now.
I live in Ukraine and hear Russian every day.
I spent three days last week touring the front-line with a Russian speaking Ukrainian from Luhansk (who doesn’t speak any Ukrainian) and is the most patriotic man I’ve ever met.
The suggestion Russian is banned here is ludicrous.
Gewonnen! Das VG Berlin hat das
@BA_Mitte_Berlin
Ukrainian artillery struck the Antonovsky Bridge in Kherson again last night.
Some of the engineering equipment the Russians were using to repair the bridge was probably also destroyed...🔥
Something very interesting happening in the city of Kherson, where Russian flags at checkpoints and over the city administration building have disappeared.
Checkpoints that were once manned by Russian troops are now abandoned...
Gee, I wonder who carried out this terrorist attack on a cafe in St. Petersburg where a Russian journalist was killed as he held an event on the war in Ukraine, along with 12 others who were wounded. Wonder if it might be the same people who murdered Darya Dungina in her car?
A long column of abandoned Russian vehicles, now captured by the Ukrainian Army, around Kharkiv.🇺🇦
This conflict already has so many parallels with the First Soviet-Finnish War (the Winter War) - it even looks like it now.👇
Mercurial head of Ukrainian military intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov, releases a video titled "Plans love silence", showing him sitting silently in his office at HUR headquarters for thirty seconds.
Elon Musk’s company - that receives sensitive Defense Department contracts now working actively against very publicly declared United States national interests. Hmmm.
There's currently every indication the Russian "withdrawal" from the west bank of the Dnipro has degenerated into a rout. We'll only know for sure at daybreak, however.
I really don't think Russia is either militarily or psychologically prepared for when Ukraine manages to mass produce their own cheap, long range "suicide drone".
Because they will, it's just a matter of time.
Obviously everyone is speculating what Ukrainian weapon was responsible for the attack on Novofedorivka airbase in temporarily occupied Crimea - but in a very real way, it doesn't matter WHAT it was - it simply matters the Ukrainians now have this capability.
Stanislav Rzhytskiy, the former commander of the Russian Black Sea fleet submarine "Krasnodar", who fired the missiles that killed Liza Dmytriyeva, was shot dead by an unknown assailant this morning.
This is little Liza. She had Down's Syndrome, and was returning from a speech therapy session with her mother when she was killed in the Russian missile strike on Vinnytsia
A reminder that after Russia shot down Malaysia Airlines Flight 17, nine years ago today, Russian proxy forces posed for smiling photos amid the wreckage and the bodies from the civilian airliner they had just destroyed.
Every digital ad on display at London Bridge train station is this propaganda message from the Ukraine government. Recall, it was just reported Friday that British soldiers have now deployed into Ukraine territory
The second significant fire in Russia today - the Dmitrievsky Chemical Plant, a key Russian manufacturer of industrial solvents, on fire in the city of Kineshma.🔥
6. Misinformation is highly down-ranked
Anything that is categorized as misinformation gets the rug pulled out from under it.
Surprisingly, so are posts about Ukraine.
This is little Liza. She had Down's Syndrome, and was returning from a speech therapy session with her mother when she was killed in the Russian missile strike on Vinnytsia
I reached out to a source close to the Ukrainian drone programme about these claims.
They confirmed Starlink had been previously enabled in the area in question - which is why Ukraine had used USVs that relied on Starlink for navigation - and that Musk had "turned it off".
My understanding - which I reported six months ago - is that Starlink was not only geofenced but also programmed to stop working at the kind of speeds drones work at. Ie it was active blocking.
A pro-Russian Telegram channel is claiming a Ukrainian raiding party crossed into Belgorod Oblast, stole a bunch of Russian military equipment, and then escaped back into Ukraine.🇺🇦
Zelensky stating that Russia would have to withdraw to their pre-24th February positions as a 'minimum' for any cessation of hostilities between Ukraine and Russia.
