I wonder how, as coaches, we can say “family first” and then trash a 14 year old for going on vacation with their parents on the only days their folks could manage to get off work and it happened to conflict with football.
@jonathanoosting
I think she's made it pretty clear that she doesn't care what political statements people make, so long as they wear the mask. This is a an absolutely worthless flex.
PJ Fleck will probably always be a guy whose teams I root for, and it really hits home now. For those who don’t know, 6 years ago my wife and I experienced a devastating pregnancy loss. Fleck was at Western Michigan at the time. My wife is an alum and I was coaching in the area..
So, six years later, here I am watching PJ Fleck row the boat with his team while my 2.5 week old daughter sleeps on my chest. We never stopped rowing.

Who knows, but imagine the uproar if the daughter of a President, knowing nothing about the work, were appointed as a close White House Advisor. Would be nuts, I'm sure.
Man, football coach twitter is actually full of dudes I have never actually met, but feel like I've known for years. I hope I can grab a beer or something with some of these guys some day. Been nice connections especially these last 20 months or so.
Man, football coach twitter can be a pretty uplifting deal. I mentioned I'd be calling out some coverages for 7 on 7 for the first time tonight and got tons of encouragement from a bunch of dudes I've never even met. Our game isn't perfect, but it is a community I love.
Through the coaching grapevine Coach Fleck caught wind of our loss and tracked down our address. He shipped us full size WMU oar that he signed, and it included a note to our family to “keep rowing.”
I LOVE college football and I LOVE the NFL, I love all football, BUT, getting ready to coach in a local, small town rivalry game that has been played every year since 1909 has me thinking that it doesn’t get any better or more pure than high school football. Love Friday night!
Coaching high school football isn't nearly as difficult as some guys make it out to be, it's just that a lot of people in the profession have horrible priorities and a total lack of balance in their lives.
It's just 7 on 7 tonight, but for the first time in my coaching life, the varsity play calling reigns are all mine! Nervous and pumped. I feel I've paid my dues over 10 years and I'm ready for what 2021 might bring!! Go Panthers!!
After 5.5 difficult, painful years, and never giving up, it is the joy of our lives for my wife and I to be able to share that we will welcome sweet, little Baby Stricklin into the world in December. The greatest gift of all.
@RitaKatherine14
Every offensive and defensive scheme ever created has merit and can be successful if you’re a good teach. By contrast every scheme can suck if you’re a bad teacher.
@SageRosenfels18
He is a figure head for the kind of masculinity that confuses bravado and reckless rhetoric with toughness. It is unfortunate and frustrating, but we all know so many people like this.
@bomani_jones
I just don't want to be lectured on honoring vets by a POTUS who once said "I like people who weren't captured" about war hero John McCain.
I will watch every bowl game. I would watch Akron play New Mexico State in a bowl game in Moscow, Idaho if it was the only football game on tv. You would too.
This may sound basic, but as a rookie defensive coordinator I kind of want to spend some time with veteran DCs and ask really seemingly obviously questions like "Why is that called that?" when it comes to coverages and blitzes. Or "why would I call that then?" So much to learn.
Some of us as coaches need to accept that football isn’t worth sacrificing family time the way it is to so many in our field. It isn’t an obsession to every 14 year old boy the way it is to 35 year old men. Their kids. Football is fun, but it isn’t their job
@SarahSpain
I am a Pastor and will attest that nothing about love is sinful. 6 poorly contextualized scripture passages ain't much to go on. God is love
@Tyson_Fury
I can't even explain what your example means to me. I fight depression every day, and your story encourages me to keep fighting back, and to get up every day. You're not just my favorite fighter, but a hero to me.
@pattonoswalt
Man, this is such a fall back retort. I get asked all the time, "Why weren't you outraged by Clinton's affair." And the answer is, "because I was 12, you idiot."
My dad has had the same job for 35 years and has had his head kicked in for most of them. Over the holidays he bet on himself with a rival company across town and they were so impressed they created a new position to hire him, so this week he told the old job to kick rocks. Proud

They're all so scared of AOC, and lucky I guess that the elected leader with the best vision for our country isn't actually old enough to run for President yet. Think about that. Amazing. She gives me some hope.
@mgoblog
I was at the Michigan Coaches clinic two years ago. Dinner time, Harbaugh came up behind me in the buffet line, grabbed a fist full for hot meatballs barehanded, smiles at me, said, “love these things,” and walked away. Absolutely true story.

You are an idolatrous traitor to the living God. We who are called to love our neighbor weep for the dead because they are our sisters and brothers. Period. Your decision to turn toward power and might will not be forgotten by God at the time of judgement.
Super jacked to share that I have been promoted and given the opportunity to serve as the new Defensive Coordinator at Stockbridge High School. Paid my dues for 10 years for an opportunity like this and I can't wait to grab it. I promise the kids my best effort. Go Panthers!
Okay…I have to get it off my chest…if you fall down 7 times you only have to get up 7 times. Where did the 8th get up come from? If you’re getting up 8 times you fell 8 times. Okay, I’m done. Sorry. That little inspirational quote drives me a little nuts. Have a good day.
One year ago today, after a painful 6.5 year struggle with infertility as a couple, my wife and I found out she was pregnant. There were scares during the pregnancy, but now we have a beautiful 4 month old baby girl. Grateful.
When you live with depression and you find out you’re going to be a dad, you pray and you hope that you’ll be able to stay out of the dark places. Turns out it can be worse, because now you’re also terrified that you’re failing your family. I need some good vibes, man.
Has anyone done a Zoom round table/Q&A for coaches, with mental health professionals willing to answer our questions about how we can be most helpful to our athletes, and how to refer them to professional help, help in school? Would anyone be interested in that kind of thing?
@LeBatardShow
I absolutely loved it. I really appreciate when a sports interview isn't 10 minutes of fluff, and flattering the guest. Dan had serious and important questions, and held Manfred accountable. Great sports journalism.
When I take high school prospects to a college camp, I watch the body language and appearance of the college coaches. If they have bad posture or their shirt is untucked, I tell my guys “that’s a loser, you can always tell by looking.” See how dumb it sounds when we flip it?
If high school kids attending 100% of summer workouts is important to their playing football in college, why do so many colleges host summer camps at times when high schools have workouts scheduled?
He is never going to do this, so I need to shout out my youngest brother, Taylor Stricklin. Taylor is a police officer in Decatur, Michigan, and he’s being recognized by his department and city next week because he saved a person’s life very recently. He administered CPR
@PratikxPatel
Many of my kids live in poverty, in a rural area where the closest grocery store is about 30 mins away. Their 2 meals a day are whatever processed stuff ends up on their tray at breakfast and lunch, or what we manage to feed them as coaches. It's tough for some kids.
Deep down, Lincoln Riley ain't mad about that FG. He's mad about losing, and the FG irritated him because everything is more irritating when you lose. Any coach who is being honest knows they've been there. Losing sucks.
Small potatoes to some, but rejoined the 300 lb bench club this morning after 6 years and 4 major surgeries on my shoulder and elbow. Flying freaking high today. Last lift before fatherhood was a great one, baby!
We welcomed Ella Grace into the world last night at 11pm. She is the light of our world already. We are so very blessed. Mama was amazing last night and is resting well. I love them both with all my heart.
There’s a bunch of dudes on this app who are like “you never played the game so you don’t know,” but who have never practiced medicine and have been giving medical opinions for two years.
We have athletes who will miss workouts here and there because they work, and they are the primary bread winners for their families. In my mind, they have their priorities straight, and they're good players. I'll go to bat for them any day.

Melina, coach has access to unlimited laser printing. Pretty sure if his players NEED to know something, he can get them that information in hard copy format. Jeez.

I wish that it was still shocking that people will resort to whataboutism in order to discredit someone confronting violence against women. You have been consistent in your commitment to confronting violence against women for as long as I have followed your work.

And they didn't even pull it from shelves. They themselves decided that the time was right to stop publishing the books. Dr. Seuss hasn't been cancelled.

It's grown men using children for their own entertainment. Shameful, useless, dangerous "drill." Our game doesn't need this.
Running practice all week and calling plays on both sides of the ball Friday night due to some covid protocols. Should be interesting. Adapt and overcome, baby. Ain't paid those dues for no reason. Go Panthers!
@CoachSkalaski
The point about a kid’s gpa not being listed in their bio as a major red flag for you stands though. Why not reach out to the kid and ask, if you’re interested? Lots of great kids don’t have folks helping them navigate how to get recruited on Twitter.
I get pretty fired up anytime I see somebody who deserves it get their chance to be a head coach. Well, there is no one who deserves it like my guy
@CoachSamz
. Ravenna (MI) football is in great hands! Congrats, Brother.
@CoachDanCasey
Why? I want to grow, but that doesn’t mean I’m embarrassed having done the best I could at the time. Did I do embarrassing things, maybe? Of course, we all do! But embarrassed by the coach I was? No. Proud of who I was and proud not to be content and still growing too.
