I seriously don’t understand why these OL units set so flat on 3rd downs, when these Defenses are running load fronts, walkers/spinners and picking the hell out of OL all over. Why set flat and turn! Let the shit develop in front of you!!!

Good example of not needing to set vertical by the OT to pick up a T/E. The G does a nice job on the send, the T has good feel/eyes to get back inside to take over the 3t. Too many coaches would tell the T to set more vertical here with a wide 3 on the man side. Not always needed

They are never calling that, ever, the language that refs use is that the Tackle box extends and expands. I’m telling you exactly what the refs say and interpret, I consult with the refs on this type of stuff. You are being obtuse about this particular point, and you are simply
@BigDuke50 again, you're blatantly missing the point.. I agree with you wholeheartedly with the fact that at the LOS (or 3-yard cushion) that there should NEVER be a block in the back... but Duke... where does Hendrickson get hit? 9 yards in the backfield? Rule's right.. call wasn't made

@BigDuke50 1.) you misquoted the rule, that’s why I added the language 2.) the *rule* (not your interpretation of it) says any hit outside of that 3 yard cushion to a defenders back is - an illegal block. Your inability to understand the rule, is not my problem

What you just quoted, is exactly why it’s legal, and never called. It’s not a foul. The Tackles are the width of the box and they extend the box. It’s the same reason DL/LB picks aren’t called.
@BigDuke50 The rule is right there… “Extending outside the edges of the tackles” But again, this hit was well behind the 3-yard cushion that the rule grants. Does it not?

“Close line play” is Tackle to Tackle dumb ass aka the “Tackle Box” it extends 3yds forward and 3yds back from original LOS.
@BigDuke50 Big fact guy now, are we? Rl. 12, Art. 1, Sec. 3. Block in the back exception in “close-line play” Rl. 3. Sec. 6 - “Close-line Play” is 3 yards on *either* side of LOS. Also doesn’t apply after ball “leaves that area”
