What is single family zoning regulating against?
@Dryssa4 @default_friend How is Ezra Klein leftwing on economic or foreign policy? Heck, the Abundance agenda is centered around deregulation!

Let's run grocery stores like Utah runs liquor stores is a hilarious argument.
@ArmandDoma What about these states that own and run liquor stores? Alabama •Idaho •New Hampshire •North Carolina (some stores are operated by local counties/cities) •Pennsylvania •Utah •Virginia

People routinely argue it’s safe to use a phone at a stop sign or stop light. Most of us have walked in front of someone at a light who never noticed us because they didn’t look up from their phones. I’m sure that’s the case here.

“ But no one is arguing that zoning regulations aren’t an important factor” Yes, lots of people are!!!
@surlygopher California does, actually, have more concentration than Texas. But no one is arguing that zoning regulations aren’t an important factor, or that market concentration and financial deregulations are the *only* factors. It’s a mixed problem, and we have to address the whole picture

Years ago LA upzoned a single family area next to the Expo/Bundy station. 20 homeowners sold their property at huge profits to developers. Now they’re turning into 600 new apartments. Hopefully we’ll see projects like this all over the state in coming years now that SB79 is law.

Trickle down economics is the idea of cutting taxes to the rich in the belief it will trickle down to everyone else. It doesn’t work. Building more apartments during a housing shortage is a completely different thing, and it works.
@dmtrubman Perfect reason to expand more units for low income families in any new supply that is built despite the protests of greedy self interested developers And draping trickle down economics in progressive language only fools idiots but thanks

Price controls on beer at games is silly… but brilliant populist schtick. Do it.
Lina Khan is quietly mapping out how New York’s incoming mayor Zohran Mamdani can use overlooked city and state laws to make daily life cheaper — from Yankee stadium beer to basic medicines, Semafor reports. People familiar with the transition say she’s identified a broad

I knew he voted for Mamdani.
“I’ve met Zohran Mamdani, voted for Zohran Mamdani. I don’t think there’s anything antisemitic about him at all,” says Ezra Klein. He argues the right invokes Mamdani to deflect from its own slide into open bigotry, and uses the moment to analyze a deeper split in how Israel is

This whole story is so San Francisco, I expect nothing less.
BREAKING: Just 7 days after Mayor Lurie appointed her to be the Sunset supervisor, Beya Alcaraz is out. She resigned today after multiple unflattering stories, including one just hours ago broken by Mission Local on a potential tax dodge. https://t.co/tNsEwCSMod

Is he Nimby or Yimby? (yes I read his housing policy website. It's vague about supply, specific about demand subsidies).
Congressman Eric Swalwell (D-CA) is planning to announce a bid for California governor. https://t.co/TVNfFikbNv

"The environmental review process is still in the early stages, and may be done by 2027." For a bike path. That voters approved in 2016. This is malicious bureaucratic delay and agency capture by carbrains. This *never happens for highway or road-widening projects.*

The NIMBYs are crashing out. Wiener’s going to be win because he’s a very good lawmaker.
Scott Wiener, candidate to replace retiring Nancy Pelosi, faces the reality: his policies and outrageous ideology are antithesis of what San Francisco and America wants. His fetishes, pandering and exploitation are an abomination, and we staunchly oppose his candidacy.

We should believe anecdotes not data.
i think we should let people who earn $30k or less and are head of household in nyc share their experiences with what happens to their rent when high-end apartments are built in their neighborhood. i think we should use their actual knowledge, not developer-funded graphs.
