I've moved to the Netherlands. My kids are hosting a giant garage sale next weekend (Oct 5-6) of all the stuff @DavidNotkin and I gathered over 40 years, including sabbaticals to interesting places all over the world. Love for you to stop by -- and tell your Seattle friends!

One thing we can learn from the 30% of people who can't drive* is that it's fair to invest 30% of our transportation money + space into streets for people, not car owners. *this 30% doesn't include children or people who are super-burdened with car costs. https://t.co/6UhqODxYeD

So if 30 percent of Americans can't drive, you'd think we'd be doing something.

@Qagggy @typewriteralley There seems to be a bit of understandable confusion about which version of Melrose & Pike in Seattle just had a multi-million dollar curb-less makeover. The project was supposed to improve the street for people. Hope this clarifies the timeline. Still confused? Me too.

There is a time-tested principle at work here—one that most American traffic engineers fail to understand: “Cars go wherever they are able to.”

If you want really successful, beautiful, used school streets like Paris, it's very important to consider design elements and how they are used in every roll out. Listen to the experts in this excerpt from our @Streetfilms which essentially the only in-depth one on social media.

A+ recap by @ianwalker on #Motonormativity We have a giant blind spot for cars, fear change, and exist in a perfect combo of factors that's let #cars dominate not just our public space but most aspects of our lives. w @PatrickRerat #OUVEMA slide: https://t.co/2nWyLcIsVf @IPPR

Cars and car infrastructure may be the single most unsustainable investment a government -- and an individual -- can make this year and into the future. To build community and individual health, invest in better ways to get around other than in cars.

Auto insurance is likely going to become more and more expensive as climate change makes things like flash floods more common and less predictable. The way to reduce transit inflation is to invest in public transit. A car shouldn't be a necessity.
