In this video, the pedestrian is walking in the middle of the day in the intersection after activating a set of flashing lights. The driver is staring at his phone. These two things are not "a two-way street."
At least give Ford's North America Product Communications Director credit for admitting what studies show, which is that most people will never use their pickup trucks to haul anything heavier than a cup of coffee.
We did not know that distracted walking can be just as dangerous as distracted driving because we've never known distracted walkers to, say, mow down a crowd of people on the sidewalk or crash into a building and damage its structural integrity.
Every 1M spent on bike lanes creates 18 more jobs than the same amount for regular auto centric roads…lets “self-propel” our planets future….

Amsterdam to drop the citywide speed limit to 30 kph, or 18 mph. "The new speed limit should result in 20 to 30 percent fewer serious accidents. Noise pollution should also decrease."
You'd never know from the headline that Grossman is accused of driving 80 mph — "allegedly racing" with another driver — and killing two boys, ages 11 and 8, who were "skateboarding and rollerblading on the street as the rest of their family walked nearby."
Rebecca Grossman’s perfect life became a perfect nightmare. “Everything changed in a split second—overnight,” she tells Los Angeles during a half-hour Zoom call from her lawyer’s office in October.
Hey
@CityofVancouver
this is second incident I’ve seen caused by these useless ‘slow street’ barricades installed last month. They don’t slow down traffic; they cause crashes and traffic chaos.
From Philadelphia Police Department: Kelly Oubre Jr. was struck in the upper chest area by a silver vehicle traveling at a high-rate speed on Saturday night.
The car fled the scene.
In addition to broken ribs, Oubre has injuries to his hip and right leg.
"After traveling 4,500 miles, I have spent less than $5 on electricity. Five dollars! That’s less than a cost of a mocha latte something at Starbucks. That is astounding."
it's actually very reasonable to not want to commute for three hours per day and we should figure out a way to organize cities so that fewer people have to do that
The car industry's vision of the future is bleak, with more individualism, societal collapse, and despair. The livable streets movement's vision of the future is positive, with more community, sociability, and happiness. We should be able to win this fight.
If you go one layer deeper, the actually funny thing is using a 5,000-lb metal box that kills 40,000 Americans per year and is powered by climate-destabilizing dinosaur juice to carry the same or even smaller amount of groceries.
overcoats look so much better when they reach at least your knees. the only problem with a knee-length coat is that it's cumbersome when you get in and out of cars (hence why pic 1 is called a car coat). but this is all the more reason to walk or take public transport

joins us to talk about riding a bike in New York and Los Angeles, our stewardship of Planet Earth, and why the best way to explore an unfamiliar city is at the speed of a good walk.
The lousy off-road handling is a non-issue once you realize that the standard Cybertruck use-case involves spending lots of time in line at the Chick-fil-A drive-thru.
"You cannot just paint lines on roads and think that you have bike lanes and then brag about it on your city website saying 'We have 500 miles of bike lanes.' No. Those bike lanes are just death traps."

: Husband of the US diplomat killed while riding a bike in Bethesda speaks out. While he mourns her loss, Dan Langenkamp, a State Dept employee, is calling for safety changes for bicyclists. They just moved here three weeks ago after evacuating Ukraine.

We partnered with Mastercard to look at how pedestrianizing 11 blocks of 5th Avenue last holiday season impacted the local economy. Guess what? It drove an estimated $3M in additional spending with merchants seeing a 6.6% increase in sales.
"John Capp, the director of vehicle safety technology, strategy and regulation at General Motors, stressed that there is not enough data about pedestrian traffic deaths to understand the causes..."
“There are no dirt paths , no mountain roads … SUVs are absolutely useless in Paris. Worse, they are dangerous, cumbersome and use too many resources to manufacture."
"60% of trips are less than six miles, and three-quarters of all trips are less than 10 miles... If there were safe places to ride and secure places to park, then millions of car trips could be avoided, and millions of cars taken off the road."
I'm enthralled by the energy on Madrid's traffic-free boulevard, Gran Vía.
Would you give up a car-centric street in your town to enjoy a wonderful scene like this...?
These children have barricaded themselves against diggers sent to rip out the pedestrianisation outside their school.
It’s right to reduce traffic outside schools. It’s safer, healthier and better for the planet.
These kids know it. They’re heroes.
I believe that there is a street safety crisis in America.
Losing hundreds of lives to unsafe streets is unacceptable. My bill, the Building Safer Streets Act, will help fix this chronic issue here in PA & across the country.
"Apocalyptic gridlock did not ensnare the Philadelphia area. Truck traffic did not come to a halt. In fact, more people rode the train or took alternate routes and life marched on."
Boring company's "traffic-jam-solving-tunnel" has traffic jams lol.
Cue everyone telling me that car tubes are more sustainable than an actual functioning public transit network 😉
Unbelievably sick story in every way: The homicidal behavior of the 16-year-old driver, his oversized “coal-rolling” truck, the lax police response urging drivers to “be more careful” (as if this attack was an accident), and the passive-voiced reporting by local news. Repellent.

“It’s not my duty as mayor to make sure you have a parking spot. For me, it’s the same as if you bought a cow, or a refrigerator, and then asked me where you’re going to put them."
For years we’ve tried to beat traffic by building more roads. It hasn’t worked.
Around the world, building more roads and lanes has resulted in more traffic.
That’s why we are going to do things differently in Wales.

"Around 8,500 cyclists prevented motorists from using a stretch of Germany's autobahn, during a protest calling for better public transport and cycle lanes."
On my watch, the great American road trip is going to be fully electrified.
And now, through a tax credit, you can get up to $7,500 on a new electric vehicle.
NEW EPISODE! "Why Does Hollywood Hate Bikes?" From "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" to "Arrested Development," chances are if a character rides a bicycle in a movie or TV show that character is a *huge* loser. Slate's

joins us to discuss.
"The Shrine is one of 3 'drive-through' Redwoods in the area and is estimated to be some 2,500 years old. That means that it was around at about the same time that Pythagoras died. Now some dude in an oversized Nissan just damaged it with his wing mirror."
CAR GOES FLYING: A suspected DUI driver slammed into a roundabout in Long Beach, launching the vehicle several feet into the air and catapulting a massive boulder toward nearby vehicles.
Culver City Councilmember scolds parents for allowing their kids to bike in a PROTECTED bike lane:
"My god, parents! You should not have your kids there! I should never ever have my kids bike on those streets... you really shouldn't encourage your young to bike"
“I understand that Teslas are pretty much computers and they happen to manufacture vehicles but… it looks like toddlers put this together during recess.”
According to a recent study, more than 7,500 pedestrians were killed by a vehicle in 2022, an average of 20 people a day — the highest number in 40 years. But experts say, the design of the roads themselves is to blame.
Unreal video from Fairfax County Police. Officer was doing a traffic stop near Fairfax when FCPD says a 17 yr old driving a BMW M3 over 120 mph lost control & slammed into the pulled over car. It’s a miracle but no one involved was seriously hurt. Turn the sound up to hear it.

The Kew Gardens Interchange project is complete!
The overhaul of this corridor is great news for nearly 600,000 daily motorists, pedestrians, cyclists, & our ambitious climate goals.
When it comes to modernizing our infrastructure, we’re keeping our foot on the accelerator. 🚘
The good news is the U.S. has built a resilient and redundant transportation system with extensive high-speed rail coverage, abundant commuter lines, bus rapid transit, and large local bike lane networks so people have many options other than driving.

. This is an entire deck of the highway’s northbound lanes, compromised by a truck fire that burned beneath the overpass. Traffic is being detoured in both directions.
@CBSPhiladelphia
Nothing says “individual freedom” like needing to be licensed by the state to sit in traffic in a car you technically don’t own because you owe payments to a bank.
Cars have given Americans unparalleled individual freedom.
'Progressives' hate individual freedom.
So NYC plans to “break the car culture.”
Watch for NYC traffic to get even more nightmarish.
