JC statement on @NYCMayor's retaliatory - and frankly petty and despicable - move to oust the @CCRB_NYC Board Chair. NYC needs a mayor that prioritizes the needs of NYers, not protecting abusive police. Pls read and share. https://t.co/7ul7MNngUT

The NYPD SRG violently cracking down on mostly nonviolent student protesters at @Columbia @BarnardCollege, with admin permission, is shameful. The students have a right to speech and we have an obligation to listen to their call: freedom and dignity for the Palestinian People.

NYPD entered @Columbia campus, led by Chell & Daughtry. SRG shouldered their way past students, then played a recording about an “unlawful encampment” and that students would be charged with trespassing. At least a thousand students watching, yelling “Shame!” at NYPD.

I can’t make it to the mayor’s press conference this morning, but I hope someone will ask him, as the NYPD howls about press coverage and the importance of accurate information, why the body-worn camera footage of the officers who killed Win Rosario still hasn’t been released.

Winzinzent Rozaro was 19 years old. He reportedly called 911 for help. Instead, police officers - who were not mental health professionals - killed him while he was in a mental health crisis. Reaching out for support should not have fatal consequences. https://t.co/Y92ZFuYFHT

The NYPD inflicts routine, deadly violence on NYers and deprives us of life-sustaining services by draining NYC's financial resources. We joined our partners with @ChangetheNYPD at @NYCCouncil FY25 Prelim Budget Hearing to demand divestment from the NYPD. 🧵

The NYPD has spent nearly $100 MILLION in overtime out of New York City taxpayers’ wallets. “For some reason the NYPD is the only one that has access to the type of overtime that they claim they need.” -@JumaaneWilliams #NYCBudgetJustice https://t.co/Cpvgy17th0

Reminded of this conversation as national guard & state troopers flood the MTA for "random" bag searches per @GovKathyHochul's recently announced five-point plan that pours additional funding into a notoriously racist police system. Voice: @JooHyun_Kang https://t.co/S2WsgbEGIZ

In the era of Eric Adams, police stops and low-level arrests are ticking up again, the stark racial disparities remain, and in some cases are getting worse.

With a budget of $133 million, and no oversight to speak of, the NYPD's Strategic Response Group is overfunded, and unaccountable - and it must be disbanded. I call on my @NYCCouncil colleagues to disband the SRG and reinvest its funds back into our communities. @NYCLU

The police department, which is supposed to play a secondary role in vendor enforcement, wouldn’t say what triggered the raid just before the busiest selling season of the year.

By using extreme force, the NYPD officers endangered the health and wellbeing of the small child. We call for an immediate investigation into the incident and full accountability for those involved.
