If advertising is the soil for the internet as we know it, what do we end up harvesting when we only choose to grow awareness in walled gardens? What is the consumer journey in the age of brain rot?

The question of attention remains the same: how do you not just get attention but hold it? And how do you create a meaningful experience instead of a skippable one? When we trust AI to choose those paths for both audience and advertiser, where do we end up?

Attention metrics are an easy win to help filter spammy low-quality websites out of the media mix. But as GPT erodes search and the walled gardens win the war against the open web and video eats the internet, ads become engines for brain rot algorithms.

Wondering if this could be a reckoning or a renaissance for video advertising. Easy to tell a win-win story when ads support free premium content for publishers. But do we really want to optimize for brain rot?

The end of DeMinimis and the big tariff up and downs have had no impact on U.S. e-commerce spending. Ecommerce in the US grew 8% YoY in October. We all like to complain about Meta, iOS, Amazon and all the challenges of ecommerce but we are building in a space that is expanding,
