Happy to announce that my new book THERE WAS NOTHING YOU COULD DO will be out in May and is available now for pre-order. This is the cover. A classic Annie Leibovitz photo above my name in the red block Columbia Records cassette/CD font, a dream come true. https://t.co/FIdtzoU2S1

I've been on a run lately of watching documentaries about Canadian musicians, and I feel like there's an opening for "American music critic who explains why they didn't make it in the U.S." that I'm happy to fill.

I love Steven’s writing, but even by his standards this soars. There’s a lot to take in and love in this piece. I’m particularly pleased to see Radiohead’s forgotten great song get an early mention.

Congrats to Music, now solidly the No. 1 popular art form. Cinema, you had a good run. TV, you are a distant third.

Every year, a v. good album comes out after year-end list season. This year it's This Is Lorelei's HOLO BOY (out 12/12), which is actually a kind of greatest hits album for his pre-"indie fame" Bandcamp releases. Had a great talk with Nate Amos about it. https://t.co/yyebL1yN2f

Went to a Geese show in Saint Paul a while ago and saw @Steven_Hyden tweet about it, which is how I came across his nifty piece of rock journalism on The Boss, heartland rock, and the disappearance of political centrism. Good read, cheers

Really think Amos should be put up there with Lenderman and Winter as one of the great 2020s indie-rock songwriting talents. Super talented as a tunesmith (also really smart when he's talking about music, as the interview shows).
