Meet Artur Dove 👋 He braved the big city to deliver our Christmas card to Government, asking for more support for nature-friendly farming. Turtle Doves have almost vanished from the UK but with the right help, there’s still hope for their return.

The Office for Environmental Protection says stronger, statutory targets are needed for protected sites. We agree. Yet the Government’s revised “Environmental Improvement Plan”, published earlier this week, did the opposite: weakening targets & slowing the action nature needs.

O Tom Stoppard. I read R&GAD at school and had my mind blown. Thankfully there in a very traditional English degree to keep it fun. I went to Edinburgh to feel the spirit and to Prague and stood gazing at Havel's flat. Someone I never knew but who expanded my life. What a gift.

We’ve announced a landmark partnership to restore 1000 hectares of peatland on The Oa!🥃 @SuntoryGlobal, @DiageoGB & @TheGlenmorangie are contributing £1.6m to protect wildlife, store carbon and build resilience against floods and wildfires. 🌍 A win for nature and whisky. 🤝

I heard a Song thrush doing a cracking impersonation of a Curlew in Cumbria this summer. Lovely piece as ever from @MarkCocker2

Nature isn’t the enemy of housing—it’s essential for healthy communities. Scapegoating wildlife won’t speed up building, but it will cost us vital habitats. The EAC report is clear: stop this lazy narrative, fix skills shortages, and protect our environment.
Nature is not the blocker to 1.5 million homes, instead it’s a necessity for building resilient towns and neighbourhoods. Read our new report on environmental sustainability and housing growth ⬇️ https://t.co/DnGBmKONEQ

We have signed this. The market was just starting to work and now it could be totally undermined.
📢 Over 80 conservation organisations, land-managers and rural businesses have written to Government to warn that exempting sub-0.5 ha sites from BNG would remove 97% of planning applications from the UK’s only national nature compliance market. If the market collapses: private

So sad to hear that Rachel Cooke has died. I always thought this brilliant recipe belonged to Simon Hopkinson. But it was hers! I will be making them this Christmas as I do every year. And have passed the recipe on to so many friends. What a gift. What a loss, too soon.

Ancient woodlands aren’t a blocker. Wildlife isn’t a hindrance. Chalk streams aren’t anti-growth. Our wildlife is on the brink - one in six species faces extinction. These species help define who we are as a nation - we won’t get a second chance to save them.

For months, ministers have been pushing a false choice between nature and growth. Now, new research shows just how out of touch they are. With data from More In Common, it's time to set the record straight. 👇

Still time to #SaveCoulLinks! A year ago, we gave evidence about the permanent damage a golf course would do to this incredible place. Its fate is in the hands of Ministers. Almost 18,000 of you have asked them to stand up for nature. Add your voice: https://t.co/2YmyIj8ysX

Following @timfarron post recently that WTE reintroduction “leads to an initial 30% of lamb kills coming from sea eagles” I have found where his 30% figure comes from on the @LifescapeProj website. The text is attached and as most people know very different to his interpretation!

A pretty depressing day counting sick & dead Whooper Swans. Avian influenza is within the population. Please report all dead birds for possible collection & testing. In 🏴 , 🏴 & 🏴 this is @DefraGovUK
https://t.co/dEoambONmf Reporting to @BirdTrack also helps with monitoring.
