Too many rural communities have been failed by a bus system that puts profit before people. If you can’t drive, you’re cut off—from jobs, education, and even social contact. Labour is set to change that with legislation to deliver public transport that serves communities' needs.

The current planning system lets developers overrule local democracy, forcing unsuitable bolt-on estates onto towns like Buntingford and Royston in NE Herts and failing to deliver truly affordable homes. We need to fix this broken system before public trust is lost entirely.

Microplastics from tyre wear are polluting our chalk streams—thousands of tonnes yearly. Rivers like the Rib, Ivel & Beane deserve better. In NE Herts and across the UK, we need urgent action, not delay. I will continue to fight for stronger protections for our precious rivers.

Good nurseries give kids the best start in life, but too many families struggle to secure places for their children, especially in less affluent areas, so its great to see 300 new/expanded schools-based nurseries across the country, including at Garden City Academy in Letchworth!
Live from one of Labour's new school-based nurseries, I've announced we're opening even more. 7,000 more places that will boost parents' work choices and children's life chances. That's the difference a Labour government makes 🌹

Public ownership has to mean railways run for passengers, not profit, delivering train services that are more comfortable, more affordable and more reliable. This is a golden opportunity to prove that public ownership can improve our lives.
Do you want a railway that works for people not profit? 🚆 The good news is there’s lots of MPs who agree. 👍🏼 We were in parliament today with @CHinchliffMP and @MartinWrigley and some fantastic rail experts to launch our vision for the railways bill. Check out the report

All MPs are busy but I was surprised that not one Conservative or Reform MP was on the benches for this debate on living standards in the East of England. I highlighted the importance of council housing to provide genuinely affordable homes for the families of North East Herts.

Away from politics, I'm genuinely sad to hear Melvyn is stepping back from In Our Time. It's been my favourite (pretty much only) podcast for 14 years, endlessly fascinating, and it won't be the same without him. Would have loved one last valedictory episode.
Having presented well over 1,000 episodes of the much-loved BBC Radio 4 series, Melvyn Bragg has made the decision to step down from In Our Time following the series which aired earlier this year Read more ➡️ https://t.co/vEKXGAbLR5

The British public deserve genuinely democratic governance. But a dangerous gap is growing between MPs representing our constituents and political demands for unquestioning loyalty. Putting North East Hertfordshire first isn't 'rebellious'—it's my job.
'Perhaps, if the national democratic role of MPs is no longer of genuine value, the government could consider saving some money by replacing the lot of us with chatbots?' ✍️ Suspended Labour MPs @CHinchliffMP and @NeilForPoole

Parents of seriously ill children should never have to choose between paying the bills and being at their child’s bedside. Hugh’s Law would change that. The Labour Government announcing a consultation is a crucial step–now we must ensure it delivers for families.
A huge thank you to @CHinchliffMP for once again standing with us and the parents of sick children and for hosting today’s powerful drop-in at Parliament. 🦋 Every voice shared takes us one step closer to #HughsLaw.

This aid is an important lifeline for Gaza’s women and girls. Midwives, medical supplies, and hygiene kits will save lives—but only if Israel allows aid in. The suffering inflicted on Gaza must be stopped. We need an end to the violence and immediate access for vital aid.
Thousands of women and girls in Gaza will receive vital health support delivered by @UNFPA – including pregnancy care, postnatal kits, and menstrual hygiene supplies.

The rollout of 30 hours free childcare is great news for families. ÂŁ7,500 saved per child, more parents able to work, and kids better prepared for school. A smart investment in the future and another way in which Labour is making sure children get the best start in life.
We've delivered our Plan for Change promise: 30 hours free childcare for working parents, saving families up to £7,500 yearly👶 Mum of 3, Becca, returned to her @Waitrose Team Manager role thanks to this support 🛒 Find out more 👉🏼 https://t.co/F5UEcKPOM6

To unlock our young people’s potential, every child needs a stable home. 169,000 children in temporary accommodation are denied this basic right. Their talents shape our future but are failed by a profit-led model. We must invest in council housing for the next generation.

I want to hear from NE Herts residents about our bus services. As the Bus Services Bill moves through Parliament, I’ll be fighting for a system that works best for our communities. Your views will help shape the future of local buses—please take a moment to share them.
