Chalk streams are vital habitats—85% are in England, 10% in Herts. Once they’re gone, they’re gone. Nature bodies are warning they're in danger—even before the Planning and Infra Bill passes. I'll keep working with @WildlifeTrusts to ensure they get the protection they need.
Southern water has imposed a hosepipe ban on areas in Hampshire and IOW which rely on the chalk streams for water. These are in danger of drying up. Many chalk streams in England are being sucked dry. Water companies are applying to abstract rivers below ecologically safe levels

I signed @LFPME's letter to the Foreign Secretary. The Israeli Defence Minister’s plan to forcibly transfer civilians in Gaza is not a humanitarian act—it’s ethnic cleansing. The UK must act: recognise Palestine, protect aid, restrict trade, and secure the release of hostages.
This week over 60 Labour MPs signed a joint letter to the Foreign Secretary, with many other MPs continuing to add their name or sending the same letter privately. Full letter and signatories here:

One year as North East Herts’ first Labour MP: 9,000+ cases closed, 20 surgeries held, and real progress made on housing, energy and the environment. In year two, I’ll keep fighting for SEND reform, better buses and a planning system that puts people and nature before profit.
Interviewed @CHinchliffMP to talk about his first year as MP for North East Herts - here's what he had to say on the biggest issues of the last 12 months, including housing and planning, assisted dying, and the winter fuel allowance 👇.

After 14 years of Tory failure, this Labour Government is fixing the broken leasehold system:. 📄Standardised service charge forms & clear accounts. 🏣Transparent buildings insurance info. ⚖️Fairer legal costs. 🔧Section 20 reform to stop shock bills. 🎓Qualified managing agents.

As a former workplace rep I know just how important this is to working parents who have experienced the tragedy of a miscarriage. Protecting time off work to mourn no matter what stage a pregnancy loss takes place is the fair thing to do, granting dignity to grieving parents.
No-one going through the heartbreak of pregnancy loss should have to go back to work before they’re ready. I’m proud this Labour government is introducing a day-one right to protected time off work, with time away from work to grieve.

Wonderful to be at #Groundswell2025 yesterday—sampling local food, exploring innovative farming solutions, and joining a panel on Nitrogen Circularity arranged by @WildlifeTrusts. Great to meet so many doing so much inspirational work to grow our food in harmony with nature. 🌱

The Labour Government’s £39bn for affordable housing with 60% social rent is great news. It could be transformational. The affordable housing crisis is a national emergency- I'm backing @Shelter’s call to frontload funding. Families need council homes now. Let’s build them!.
🚨 BREAKING 🚨. We’re delivering the biggest boost to social and affordable homes in a generation through a new £39b programme. At least 60% will be for social rent. This investment and reform will provide secure homes for hundreds of thousands of families across the country.

The Conservatives cut services to the bone while the rich got richer. They left Britain broken. That inheritance should be motivation for change—not a reason to defend a failed status quo. One human life is worth more than all the wealth of the super-rich and mega-corporations.
Labour MP @CHinchliffMP explains why the disability benefit cuts are impossible to support.

I stand with carers. The Disability Benefit Cuts Bill could have a massive knock on effect for future carers. A Labour Government should be supporting carers—not trying to balance the books on their backs. I will vote NO. @CarersUK
