@clmarohn I sent this picture in to the city, asking them to reduce lane width by 1 ft each (from 12ft to 11ft) so that they could expand the sidewalk on the bridge from 2.5ft to 4.5ft. Response "most strollers will fit, widening sidewalk is not feasible". AADT is 8000.

Shipley's donuts is 0.3 mi from our house. My daughters INSISTED on biking on Sun morning. I regretted giving in to their demand. Thanks to @HoustonTX making sidewalks abutting property owner responsibility and @CenterPoint not caring this is the experience. 1/2

Traffic crackdown is good. But you don't even need to be an expert to realize that a few heavily announced and publicized enforcement days are not going to be able to make a significant difference in driving behavior. Gift article:.

At a minimum say it is city wide, for a whole month. Keep the offenders guessing, instead of giving them exact time and location of your law enforcement activity. This is just performative BS, not law enforcement.

Why are we giving law breakers a big "heads up!"? Would we do this for drug busts? This sounds like "on June 27 expect zero tolerance for road rage, speeding, and reckless driving" (but on Jun 28, after our media photo ops, we are back to not caring that much again).

Another public safety issue of car dependence is that lawmakers are reluctant to set safe driving blood alcohol content (BAC) limits. The US + CAN stand out as one of the few countries that allow driving with 0.08 BAC. Already at 0.05 steering and reaction time are affected.

Crossing major streets is the biggest reason why people don't feel comfortable to walk or bike the 1/2 mile to their park/school. If we fix only approx. 20 INTERSECTIONS per super neighborhood at a cost of $700 each, we could significantly improve safety city wide for only $1 Mil

I have a question about etiquette when emailing city staff. Is it rude to address e.g. a chief of staff or a public works employee with "Hi John"? Using "Mr Smith" feels so outdated, but I do notice city staff reply like that even when I sign with my first name only at the end.

> $1.2M to build an Affordable apartment.> $350k to build a market-rate apartment. This is supremely fucked. Frankly, there is ZERO good reason for why it should cost a single penny more to develop affordable apartments than it does market-rate apartments.

Full transparency, I did not know that the big beautiful bill was a real budget and would be used to determine spending levels. It seems to me that this is something that should have been made known to those in the House of Representative.
