Standards in public life matter.
At this time I can no longer support the PM. His actions and mistruths are overshadowing the extraordinary work of so many excellent ministers and colleagues.
I have submitted a letter of no confidence.
Today is not about Brexit it is only about whether or not colleagues feel the PM is the fit and proper person to be in No10.
Unsurprisingly, I do not believe he is and I will therefore be voting against the PM tonight.
It is time for cabinet colleagues to recognise the appalling damage that the Prime Minister is doing to the party, government and country.
It isn’t good enough and each day that passes those who sit in cabinet will be more complicit with this farcical situation.
Time4change.
Debate and discourse in this country are essential.
We are not America.
What happened to
@Keir_Starmer
and
@DavidLammy
were unacceptable.
We must do better, which means leading by example in Westminster.
I am supporting next week's internal market bill. This is about maintaining the Union of the UK, delivering on a referendum and election promise.
Let's get it done!
I have gone against against Government on quite a lot of matters.
I have NEVER been threatened or blackmailed by a Minister, Whip or SPAD.
It wouldn't work woth me and not sure it would with any other colleague.
Sarah Wollaston stood on a manifesto in 2017 to deliver Brexit for the people of Totnes. She has now joined a party directly opposed to this objective. We need an MP who the people of Totnes can trust.
While I believe all should get their vaccinations.
I do not believe we should be forcing those who work in the NHS out of their jobs for not having vaccinations when we need them most.
Time for a u-turn on this ridiculous policy.
The UK blatantly interfered in China’s internal affairs and contravened international law and the basic norms governing international relations. China has never interfered in UK’s internal affairs. The UK should do the same to China. Otherwise it must bear the consequences.
Given that
@LeeAndersonMP_
backed and signrd my recall motion, stating that if MPs cross the floor to another political party I hope he is calling a by-election.
Our entire vision and strategy towards China needs urgent review.
@edwardlucas
highlights China’s deception and global strategy with alarming clarity.
We can start by reviewing Huawei and our 5G networks. Bring on the Telecommunications Security Bill.
The problem with the cancel culture is that it knows no boundaries.
Next they will start to edit films that may cause offence due some tedious wokery.
This tiny minority is trying to make us ashamed of our history and our culture. I for one will be singing along!
After a great deal of discussion and deliberation I have signed, and am backing, Ian Duncan Smith's amendment to the Telecoms Bill. This amendment will push Huawei out of our 5G network by the end of 2022. I have not taken this position lightly, but national security comes first.
Words fail me!
@RishiSunak
has gone above and beyond. He has listened to the hospitality and tourism sector. The reduction of tourism VAT to 5% is huge and beneficial move.
Thank you from the hospitality and tourism sectors and from me!

I have seen first hand the power of UK Development. The 0.7% not only protects us at home, it also helps millions abroad.
I will be voting against the Govt this afternoon. Returning the 0.7% is as much about Global Britain as trade, defence and diplomacy.
Great to have wide ranging support for the
#hospitality
&
#tourism
sector with 85 fellow Conservative MP.
Further action is required to safeguard these sectors and I hope the
@GOVUK
will deliver for these areas.
Am increasingly concerned by the extreme behaviour shown by EU customs agents.
I have heard about a gun being drawn on one driver for not having documentation for empty boxes in his van.
Completely against the UK-EU trade deal & is severely impacting our exports, including fish
I am thrilled to be the new Conservative MP for the Constituency of Totnes.
Thank you to my incredible team and all my supporters who have been unfailing over the last 141 days.
Now the hard work begins!

Chief whip Mark Spencer has allegedly lost so much authority his private nicknames for rebel MPs are becoming common knowledge
Anthony Mangnall, behind foreign aid rebellions, is “Anthony Wanknall”.
Tom Tugendhat, China hawk, is “Tom Tugentwat”
I'm delighted that the
@UniofOxford
/
@AstraZeneca
vaccine, developed in the UK, has submitted its full data package to the
@MHRAgovuk
for approval.
This is the next step towards a decision on the deployment of the

vaccine.
This is completely unacceptable. The French should not be behaving in this manner.
We are happy to work with them but not if they behave in this way.
See below.....
French PM Jean Castex has sent a letter to Ursula von der Leyen, the Commission’s president, to notify her of Paris’ planned reprisals against the UK in the fish war. Castex asks for support because the EU needs to show ‘leaving the Union is more damaging than remaining in it’.
I am ready in Totnes for an election. People are sick to death of self serving MPs who are not listening to their constituents. If we need an election to clear out Parliament of those who feel they can ignore their voters wants then so be it. Time to deliver.
@Conservatives
I can’t believe I have to say this but if you have Covid-19 please do not travel across the country to your second homes. You must self isolate & follow the government guide lines.
If you travel with the virus you are spreading it.

A Freeport in Plymouth is going to benefit the whole of the South West.
The levelling up agenda to create jobs, opportunities and attract investment is alive & well.
Delighted with
@RishiSunak
Budget today and what it means for the South West
Return of the Scallop Wars? - UPDATE. Confrontation between French & British boats off the Normandy coast. Footage from two Brixham boats appears to show French boats obstructing British scallopers, firing a flare at them & escorting them out of the Baie de Seine.
@BBCSpotlight
Lets be clear 'non-essential travel' does not mean you can undertake leisure travel. This could have a huge impact on frontline services.
Please don't travel across the country. Remain at home and self isolate and think of others.
We will get through this, but only together.
Delighted to be the Conservative candidate for
@TotnesCA
. I am looking forward to working across the constituency and discussing local and national issues.
@Conservatives
I think this is a misjudged comment
@Keir_Starmer
@MattHancock
asked for care regarding resources that are under huge demand across the globe.
That, IMHO, is sensible.
It is quite frankly insulting to imply frontline staff are wasting PPE.
There are horrific stories of NHS staff and care workers not having the equipment they need to keep them safe.
The Government must act to ensure supplies are delivered.
The last day of the Conservative leadership contest.
Am proud to be supporting Rishi and hope that members across the country will back him to be our next PM.
Voting closes at 5pm.
Fantastic to see
@Conservatives
gain
@Torbay_Council
from the Lib Dems.
I know the whole team will work incredibly hard to deliver for every part of the Bay.
So, just to be clear, and confirmed by Dartmoor National Park Authority:
- Public will not have to pay to wild camp
And
- Landowners will enter into a fixed legal contract with Dartmoor National Park to allow wild camping to continue
See below for further information.
The Inter Parliamentary Alliance on China (IPAC) is just the start.

- promote trade fairness
- strengthen security

Incredible opening speech from Angelina Jolie at the Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict conference.
This conference has to be about more than words, but action. Action for survivors, action to end impunity, action for global engagement.

The scenes in Salcombe are a disgrace and a huge slap in the face to local residents. I have spoken to
@AlisonHernandez
and town Mayor, Nikki Turton. We are all working together to ramp up police evening presence and action.
We will not stand for anti social behaviour.
My first words in Parliament, now in Hansard. Business rates matter and I want to see a comprehensive review of how they operate across our country. Review and reform! Thanks
@sajidjavid
for your response and work.
What a load of rubbish. I can believe in Brexit and want to see it delivered without being hard right.
I am part of a new generation of aspiring politicians who want to make a change for the better. Predominantly through local-ising our politics.

David was one of the kindest and most genuine men I have ever met.
He aspired to the highest level of honour, decency and he made a huge mark on those around him.
He will be greatly missed.
As a green
@Conservatives
I am disappointed to see the Green party not fielding a candidate in Totnes.
I don't think these back room delas are impressing the voter.
But I promise to be green Conservative and to lead my generations fight in combatting climate change.
Prince Philip embodied the very best of Britain.
His ceaseless duty and dedication to our country and the Commonwealth will live through the ages.
Rest in Peace.
Have been out campaigning today and nearly every person I spoke to agrees with
@BorisJohnson
course of action. I also agree. He has the right to present a new agenda before Parliament, as all governments do. Time to deliver a new and exciting domestic agenda.
@Conservatives
At the darkest of hours you were an inspiration to us all. Thank you for your service, your duty and your dedication.
Rest in peace Captain Sir Tom Moore.
As Mr Speaker made clear today, tomorrow’s debate is an opportunity for the Government to hear the mood of the House.
There will be no vote tomorrow. As Mr Speaker made clear, its for the Govt to resolve this in the proper way by bringing forward a binding, meaningful vote.
A remarkable achievement from
@RishiSunak
in securing a new deal on N.I. and delivering the Windsor Framework.
See the details, but the Prime Minister has done what many thought impossible.
First official day back in Westminster and I am down to ask the Chancellor a question on business rates and the impact it has on business in the Totnes constituency.
I want to see a review and a reduction in rates…
Final push today so we can:
💥 Get Brexit Done by 31 January
💥 Invest record sums in our NHS
💥 20,000 more police
💥 Australian-style points based immigration system
💥More funding for every pupil
AND
💥 Keep the pound-shop Marxist out of Downing
Very pleased that after a great deal of campaigning the Government has announced the closure of the second home tax loophole.
@michaelgove
&
@RishiSunak
‘s work ensures that second homes will pay their fair share in council tax.
This will make a big difference across the SW.
Delighted that social distancing measures are being reduced to 1m & that hotels, pubs and restaurants (table service only) are 2b reopened on 4th July.
Good news for the many millions working in the tourism and hospitality sector!

was campaigning in Devon alongside our brilliant Conservative parliamentary candidate for Totnes,
@AnthonyMangnal1
.
🇬🇧 Help elect more Conservatives.

Delighted to see
@RishiSunak
as our new Prime Minister.
He knows the task at hand is great but he has the skills and ability to deliver.
I, like so many others, will be working across the Party to support him and helping those most in need across the whole country.
That response contained some 'insert lines' that allowed me to respond to specific issues and concerns raised. I stupidly sent out one of those emails without having removed the additional lines.
This has caused a great deal of offence and I am incredibly sorry.
That was the best PMQs I have seen in the last three years.
The Prime Minister is clear about the challenges faced and answering colleagues honestly and directly.
Am looking forward to more of these and raising South Devon matters.

I asked
@BorisJohnson
to guarantee that the allocation of fishing resources will not be a bargaining chip in negotiations, but rather that we will become a normal, independent maritime nation, negotiating annual, reciprocal arrangements with our neighbours for mutual advantage.
After 125 constituency visits I know this election is close.
Over and over again I’ve heard the same message: let’s get Brexit done so we can move this country forward.

The passing of Her Majesty The Queens marks the close of the second Elizabethan age.
Her reign was one of selflessness, dedication and duty. She gave her life to this country, the Commonwealth and its people.
May her legacy guide us all.
God save the King.
Tonight is a momentous step for our country. I believe passionately that leaving the EU will open up new and positive opportunities. We should all be united in our love of country and determination to see it succeed regardless of how you voted in 2016.

Very welcome to hear reports of a UK-EU deal this morning. If this is the case I look forward to reading it.
If a deal is reached its worth noting that this would be the UK's 59th trade deal this year.
A great achievement for
@BorisJohnson
and Global Britain
👇👇👇This is a big deal and will make a huge difference to British businesses and our economy.

Well done to

I have just formally signed the UK’s entry into CPTPP in Auckland, New Zealand 🤝
This will be a big boost for British businesses and open up huge opportunities and unparalleled access to a market of over 500 million people in the Indo-Pacific and beyond 🇬🇧📈

Forecasts on trade deals usually underestimate the value. CPTPP is not a replacement to the EU, with whom we have a comprehensive Trade and Coperation Agreement.
Why shouldn't the UK join the fastest growing region in the world?
Events in Afghanistan are tragically predictable.
We need to:
- increase support & aid for those NGOs that are operating in Afghanistan
- expedite visas for all those who worked with GB Military
- create a global coalition/body to address sexual violence in conflict and crises
It hardly needs pointing out but please support your local businesses at this difficult time. From your friendly fishermen to your brilliant butcher they need your support.

I have been knocking on doors since the end of July. The vast majority of people I have met want to see Brexit delivered. Even those who voted remain. Lets seal the deal.
I have been speaking to pupils, parents and head teachers regarding results over the last five days.
I am hopeful that this afternoon will clear up a lot of the mess. Young people have suffered a great deal this year, their future should not be jepordised.
