The risk of cognitive deficit and dementia is more concerning to me than some of the other risks. My livelihood depends on it, and that plus having young kids at home who I want to see grow up is why I continue to pay attention to COVID rates.

Maybe I'm too much of an optimist, but I'm hoping that this gun opinion will backfire and states will replace the gun laws with strict liability for the owners of stolen or borrowed handguns and mandatory insurance. Then let insurance companies figure out most of the rest.

You can look at the delayed sequencing data in a couple of weeks. Or you can look at Walgreens’ data which is only 2 to 3 days delayed from the date of test, but that doesn’t differentiate BA.4 from BA.5. BA.5 is around 2x BA.4. Check your state here:

The national average is now 29.9% BA.4+BA.5 COVID. In a little over a week BA4/5 will be over 50%. But testing and reporting is delayed over a week from infection, so I'd guess that we are already at 50% nationwide.

In the US, the leader of the insurrection was still President and remained in power for 2 more weeks. Almost no one was arrested on 1/6 and Garland wasn't confirmed until 2 months later. Garland should have moved faster, but we can't blame all the differences on Garland.

Actually, probably the opposite should happen. There's a huge danger that someone spreads a fabricated or overblown story just before the election when there is no time to combat it. Whereas, months before there's a lot of time to reverse the damage.

Looking at Walgreen's SGTF data, tests Dec 26-28, 25% of their PCR tests nationwide were non-SGTF (likely XBB) and no state was over 60%. With a few days lag for people to get tested and 3 more days, Walgreens data could end up close to the CDC's numbers.

For those who are wondering, this mask is actually very easy to breath through and to me more comfortable than an N95. I don’t think I’d have difficulty wearing it for a whole day even without breaks.
