In the UK during 2022, 1,711 people died and 28,031 people were seriously injured in road crashes. There is no other transport method in which society would accept this level of harm. So why is there not extensive coverage and debate about this appalling level of road harm?.

Less than 1% of fatal crashes are caused by a cyclist. Therefore enforcement should match proportionately the causes of harm. Our primary focus is saving life, and whilst we do enforce some cycling offences, such as red light breaches, this should not be the focus or priority.

Drunk and failing to stop after fatal collision. Convicted of #DrinkDriving twice before. Yet only a 3 year driving ban (3 years!!). It’s time to end the perceived ‘entitlement to drive’ by putting safety & victims above an individual who has consistently failed other road users.

Are you minded to speed when driving? If so, watch this and reflect on the risk you pose to yourself and others. After a crash you won’t have the benefit on hindsight - so from now on drive safely & sensibly today and everyday.

People like John who claim speed enforcement is about revenue, create a culture that excuses the criminality of speeding drivers. Speed is the primary factor in fatal crashes, and therefore enforcement is focussed on saving life.

Speed is a primary cause of fatal crashes. Technology can limit speed. I favour GPS linked speed limiters capped to the relevant speed limit. In new vehicles why delay using this tech which would save lives? Why create new vehicles which can dramatically exceed the speed limit?.

In 2022; 145 people died in a crash with a drink driver and 90 died in a crash with a drug driver. 235 lives needlessly cut short and 235 doors knocked leaving families devastated. Last December, we arrested nearly 9,000 for drink or drug drive. Selfish and dangerous criminals.

I think families bereaved via a road crash will ‘understandably’ be deeply upset at the length of the driving ban in this case (just 51 months). This is not an uncommon sentencing outcome and I feel reflects a need for a societal rethink about the ‘right to drive’.

Awful to watch such appalling driving and it’s consequences. 42 separate occurrences of poor driving! Yet only a 57 month driving ban. Surely this is totally inadequate? How do we trust a driver so reckless to be safe in future? IMO we must end the perceived entitlement to drive.

“Your moment of stupidity in driving under the influence of alcohol has led to profound impact on Mr Shirley. No sentence I pass can undo that impact”🤔. The driver made a choice endangering others. Surely sentencing includes victim justice & deterrence protecting future victims?.

Where are crash victims, bereaved families & road safety factored into this decision?. Every single driver knows what losing their licence means for their personal circumstances. Driving is not an entitlement. It’s time the system prioritised safety above proven unlawful drivers.

Pleased to confirm @metpoliceuk will fast-track the cases of extreme speed drivers so their cases are heard at Court within 2-3 working days. This allows for prompt justice and sanctions can be imposed sooner than otherwise. #Justice #RoadSafety #London

Awful viewing. Animal cruelty is an indicator of many other vile behaviours and a tendency towards other forms of violence. The assault & anti social behaviour needs our action. Help us by letting us know who these offenders are via 101; @MetCC or confidentially via crimestoppers.

The photo contains 3,700 pairs of shoes. It’s a somber reminder that 3,700 people around the world die in road crashes every day. That's 1 fatality every 23 seconds, yet global road safety week is only every 2 years. Why wait until 2023 for next #UNGRSW when change is needed now?

Very excited by work led by @road_ss in which vehicle speeds can be identified through #Dashcam video analysis. This will enable ‘speed enforcement’ via public reporting. A game changer for #RoadSafety as 24/7 public eyes will help change a culture which devastates so many lives.

Horrific life long injuries for the cyclist. A prison sentence for the drink driver who failed to stop after the crash. Yet only a ‘4yr driving ban’. I really hope we end driver entitlement and pursue a robust prioritisation of road danger reduction. We deserve to travel safely.

I wish the @DailyMailUK headline reflected drivers who chose to exceed the speed limit were to blame for the rise in penalties imposed!. We must change the unhealthy culture which minimises the risk speeding drivers pose to road safety and all too often leads to fatal collisions.

Imagine doing this in a queue at the cinema or supermarket… You wouldn’t do it right?! So why do impatient drivers do so?? It’s rude, increases danger, and at best you will save just a few seconds. Essentially zero gain to look very silly, obnoxious and put others at risk.

I think it is unfortunate to draw a comparison to road death. Road death should never be considered inevitable and can be prevented through effective collective work. Addressing a perceived ‘road death is inevitable’ culture across society is key to influencing the change needed.

A frequent impatient & selfish driving culture which in this case gained just one place in a queue. Its the same culture that is prepared to speed to save a few seconds or minutes off their journey & in doing so greatly increases risk to safety. Thank you for politley challenging.

We should create one for the UK (in 2021; 1,608 people died in road collisions). We need innovative ways to highlight road danger and increase awareness of the impact and need to prioritise safety. Anybody willing to work with me (and @KyleGordonMPS) to create such a campaign?.
