Less than 1% of fatal crashes are caused by a cyclist. Therefore enforcement should match proportionately the causes of harm. Our primary focus is saving life, and whilst we do enforce some cycling offences, such as red light breaches, this should not be the focus or priority.
I would be in favour of this as long as every piece of footage showing a cyclist going through a red light or zebra crossing is also passed on to the police to stop their selfish life risking behaviour.

Close to twice the speed limit in a car with a 6.6 litre V12 engine and the capability to accelerate from 0-60mph in 4.4seconds. I feel we need substantial change in the length of driving bans and a change in thinking as to why we accept such powerful vehicles on our roads.
A speeding driver, driving at almost twice the speed limit who killed a pedestrian at a crossing, has been banned from driving for 3 years and fined £25,000.

Speed is a primary cause of fatal crashes. Technology can limit speed. I favour GPS linked speed limiters capped to the relevant speed limit. In new vehicles why delay using this tech which would save lives? Why create new vehicles which can dramatically exceed the speed limit?.
This system is currently tweeting every time Google reports someone traveling at an average speed of over 49MPH within this area.

I think families bereaved via a road crash will ‘understandably’ be deeply upset at the length of the driving ban in this case (just 51 months). This is not an uncommon sentencing outcome and I feel reflects a need for a societal rethink about the ‘right to drive’.

Imagine doing this in a queue at the cinema or supermarket… You wouldn’t do it right?! So why do impatient drivers do so?? It’s rude, increases danger, and at best you will save just a few seconds. Essentially zero gain to look very silly, obnoxious and put others at risk.
With some relief, back to cycling. This driver is probably a nice guy, and just needs to think a bit more about his fellow road users. The guy behind him in the van — not so much.

I think it is unfortunate to draw a comparison to road death. Road death should never be considered inevitable and can be prevented through effective collective work. Addressing a perceived ‘road death is inevitable’ culture across society is key to influencing the change needed.
But we knew this right? “More under 60s died on roads last year than those with no underlying conditions from coronavirus”

A frequent impatient & selfish driving culture which in this case gained just one place in a queue. Its the same culture that is prepared to speed to save a few seconds or minutes off their journey & in doing so greatly increases risk to safety. Thank you for politley challenging.

We should create one for the UK (in 2021; 1,608 people died in road collisions). We need innovative ways to highlight road danger and increase awareness of the impact and need to prioritise safety. Anybody willing to work with me (and @KyleGordonMPS) to create such a campaign?.
