Thank you, @CMBrookePinto, for introducing an amendment to implement the semi-open primaries component of Initiative 83 during today's budget vote. While the amendment unfortunately failed, we truly appreciate your work to defend democracy and uphold the will of the 73% of voters
"This is the clear will of the voters," says Pinto as she introduces her amendment to fund semi-open primaries in D.C.

What a shame that the amendment CM Pinto just offered to implement the semi-open primaries component of Initiative 83 did not pass. 73% of voters -- 212,000 Washingtonians --made their will known. Shame on those who voted no! #letindependentsvote #YESon83

THANK YOU @CMBrookePinto !! We need council to uphold the will of the voters and fund ALL of #Initiative83
Also interesting: @CMBrookePinto is proposing an amendment to fund semi-open primaries in D.C., which was one half of Initiative 83. The other half, ranked-choice voting, is being funded separately. If this passes, D.C. would get RCV and semi-open primaries in 2026.

Interesting: An amendment from @CMWendellFelder and @AnitaBondsDC that would have delayed ranked-choice voting (by requiring a feasibility study first) has been withdrawn. So for now it looks like RCV will come to D.C. elections in 2026.

This is fantastic news. The will of the voters means the ENTIRE will of the voters, not just half!! Thank you @CMBrookePinto!!

We are happy to see that funding for Ranked Choice Voting remains safe and that implementation will proceed as planned. We look forward to thoughtful and methodical implementation of RCV for our elections in 2026!
Felder just withdrew this amendment, saying he'd work with the Board of Elections on this issue instead. Sure seems like he couldn't find the votes necessary to pass it...

Washington, DC is smart to move to #RankedChoiceVoting – which will give voters more choices and ensure its leaders have majority support. More cities and states should follow its lead. @AllVotesCountDC

One more week to urge your Councilmembers to vote to fund the second portion of #initiative83 - letting independents vote in DC primaries:

DC overwhelmingly voted for Initiative 83 last November, but now it's up to the DC Council to provide a budget for implementing it. Without a budget, the initiative will die. On July 14, the Council...

We've seen a lot of buzz around the controversial results of the Ward 8 Special Election. We just clinched Ranked Choice Voting for DC elections starting next June, but how could it have helped in this week's election? We break it down here!
