Teacher and mum to 3 gainfully employed adults and one dog (who’s not as yet found a job!) Fortunate to be living/working in lovely Monmouthshire. Views my own!

@RRForg Terrible error - how to waste public money…. They need to get a grip on this. Not listen to dilettante education-posers - get in some people who have a practical track record. I’d put in John Walker.

Let’s hope there’s a Welsh contingent from WG and Estyn there! Not prioritising reading, and not prioritising the best bets to get every child reading -and reading early and fluently - is incomprehensible. All the well-being lessons in the world can’t compensate for illiteracy.
SUPER IMPORTANT SESSION FROM @HoratioSpeaks: WHEN CHILDREN LEARN TO READ IT CHANGES THEIR PERCEPTION AND SELF IMAGE OF THEMSELVES #rEDBRUM

@robrandel @EstynHMI @SeneddChildren @WG_Education @AddysgEducation @SusanGodsland @debbiehepp @anneglennie @dnleslie @PamelaSnow2 @buckingham_j Good ‘eavens! How many times are this clueless Estyn team going to double down on multi cueing strategies that have long been discredited. Parents and teachers should be outraged and calling for this lot to pass the job of teaching children to read and write to those who know

If you want to raise attainment – teach all children to read If you want better behaviour – teach all children to read If you want better relationships – teach all children to read Start early, do it right, and watch the magic unfold.

Policy-makers in NI take note. From today's Sunday Times. A well-implemented knowledge-rich curriculum can be the most powerful tool in driving up standards and breaking educational disadvantage. Well done to fellow headteacher @Bruce_NextLevel .

Perhaps this would be a good read for @AddysgEducation and all those advising, including @EstynHMI
It's here! "Developing Curriculum for Deep Thinking: The knowledge revival" is an open-access book that explains why knowledge needs to be at the heart of the curriculum:

Maybe @AddysgEducation and those advising should just go and have a look at this school and see if it opens their minds even a tiny bit to the possibilities and realisation of what’s possible and what children are capable of. I wonder if this school has teachers or ‘enablers’ 🤔
In 2017, we began our journey to build a school around our 3 pillars - Exemplary behaviour Knowledge-rich curriculum and Explicit teaching The KS2 outcome below was something we could only dream of when we started, but I’m pleased to say that perseverance pays off...

@SWLiteracy @TheReadingApe A concern because I'm sure the author has been advising @WG_Education/ @AddysgEducation, which I expect is behind the reason we see no reference to the Simple View of Reading model in #curriculumforwales — a model that would easily provide the clarity we need.

NEW - reading is not just about having a love of books, nor just being able to accurately lift words off the page. It's both. The simple view of reading, first suggested by Gough & Tunmer (1986) is something all teachers should be aware of.

Another more recent thread with some spelling advice here: https://t.co/hPRtKaZ99U
The power of teaching spelling via morphological word families 🧵 At @researchEDBelf yesterday, I (hopefully) managed to stress the importance of teaching and assessing spelling through phonological and orthographic lenses, but morphology didn’t get the love/time it deserves…

A plea to all those involved in influencing education direction in Wales to have a listen and at least reflect on the advice they give schools re curriculum and most importantly pedagogy. https://t.co/gMhTjLFZvY

So, the so called, ‘descriptions of learning’ from the CfW aren’t available on HWB this evening. Is this a website issue or an acknowledgement that they are too woolly to be meaningful and is there a re-write going on @HwbAddysg_Cymru? Maybe SSP will magically appear if so…?

Following the @RhysWilliamsTV investigation into reading in Wales, it finally feels like @AddysgEducation and @WG_Education are listening. Can't believe we recorded this over 3 years ago, @ImpactWales... maybe @lynne_neagle will listen now? #curriculumforwales
🎙 Tomorrow on the Impact #podcast we discuss the importance of reading with guest @robrandel. 🎧 Listen wherever you get your podcasts or at https://t.co/qLWD7JlFMD

The saga of reading in Wales continues. Here @RhysWilliamsTV is again crystal clear on what's actually going on. @AddysgEducation it seems is trying to suggest WG guidance to schools has always been synthetic phonics, that schools have never been encouraged to teach using
I’ve written a short blog on what we’ve learned since both the First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Education were asked about our story about the way English reading is taught in Wales. 👇🧵 https://t.co/nebgb7KsG1

Education secretary Lynne Neagle was asked repeatedly about our story in the Senedd today, and I want to draw your attention in particular to what she said here:

@RhysWilliamsTV @itvnews Well done, Rhys. You’ve got them paying attention. Now to sustain the impetus or they’ll obfuscate and then hope it all goes away.
