@DeputyMitchell @PieCorbett Honestly Pie’s Talk for Writing approach is the thing I miss the most since retiring. Sometimes I read a book or story and just long do be able to explore it with a class again. Hope it’s another successful writing project!

One of first things I wrote by choice was about 1st memories, bearing in mind opening of Joyce’s ‘Portrait of the artist as a young man’. (I was 16). It was printed in the school mag. First time ever, I read both at teachers’ conf today as eg of imitation-invention. @PieCorbett

Should kid have phones in class? 100% no. Why? 1. The constant cognitive tax of potential interruption. 2. The implicit message that a parent's immediate convenience trumps a child's engagement in the very institution designed for their intellectual growth. 3. The social
There was also a clear top reason why youth reported that schools should allow phone use in class. 81% of those who were against phone bans said that their parents should be able to reach them when needed.

Discussion with @greeborunner has had me looking again at the DfE Writing Framework. The attention to handwriting, including provision for left-handed children, is good and important. Too many children are left holding a pencil in their fist, with serious long-term consequences.
